Kiro Updates & Release Notes

With Cloud configuration enabled, your supported personal configuration appears across the IDE and Agent Focus, and cloud-synced Powers are ready to try from the installed list. This version also keeps in-progress cloud-session drafts available across navigation and preserves the welcome view until you send your first prompt.

Use Cloud configuration across the IDE

When Cloud configuration is enabled for your account, access personal Steering, custom agents, Skills, Powers, and Hooks from their usual IDE surfaces. Cloud indicators identify items managed in Kiro Web. Steering, Skills, and Hooks open as read-only previews with an Edit in web action, and Agent Focus shows the same source and management links.

Try cloud-synced Powers in the IDE

Cloud-synced Powers now appear in the installed Powers list, where you can select Try power and review their bundled Skills and MCP configuration. Manage these account-backed Powers in Kiro Web.

Browse and manage local and cloud sessions, inspect configured resources, and apply cloud configuration to new local V3 sessions.

This release adds a V3 dashboard for browsing, searching, resuming, and cleaning up local and cloud sessions. A new configuration panel brings your configured resources together in one terminal view. Configuration Sync can also apply your uploaded cloud configuration to new local CLI sessions.

Account administrators can now send per-user Kiro usage metrics to their OpenTelemetry-compatible observability platform. Monitor adoption, engagement, and credit consumption by user and model without configuring individual developer environments. Use OTLP alongside the existing daily CSV report to integrate Kiro metrics directly into dashboards and monitoring workflows.

Connect Amazon CloudWatch, Datadog, Dynatrace, Elastic, Honeycomb, OpenSearch through an OTLP receiver, or your own collector using OTLP/gRPC or HTTP/protobuf. Set up one account-level export in the Kiro console with an AWS Secrets Manager secret and a publicly reachable OTLP endpoint. Kiro delivers metrics server-side every day at 02:00 UTC.

This release brings mouse support to the spec review screen. Under the hood, a stream idle watchdog, automatic retries with backoff, and a 60-minute streaming timeout mean a dropped connection or a throttled request no longer hangs or ends your turn.

Automatic recovery from stream and network failures

Turns no longer hang on a stalled response stream: an idle watchdog warns after 60 seconds of silence and cancels at 300, while throttling, 5xx errors, and connection drops are retried automatically with backoff. Streaming responses also get a 60-minute timeout by default, so long responses are no longer cut off. Tune all of it with the api.streamIdleSoftTimeout , api.streamIdleHardTimeout , and api.timeout settings. Learn more ->

AI-generated session titles (v3)

The session resume picker now shows a short AI-generated title summarizing your first prompt, so similar sessions are easy to tell apart when you return with kiro-cli chat --resume-picker or /chat resume .

Your team can now access Kiro Web through the Okta or Microsoft Entra ID integration you already use. After an administrator configures access, users only need to sign in. This capability is available with Kiro Pro and above subscriptions.

Configure Kiro Web access

Add https://app.kiro.dev/signin/oauth to your existing Kiro OpenID Connect (OIDC) application. In Okta, add another Sign-in redirect URI. In Microsoft Entra ID, add the URI under Single-page application, separate from the Mobile and desktop application redirects. Then enable Cloud Sessions (Preview). You can enable Cloud Sessions and API key generation independently.

This release lets you talk to Kiro instead of typing: /voice dictates your prompts with on-device transcription. Spec runs gain a review screen for reading phase documents and staging line comments, and AGENTS.md files now load as steering context from anywhere in your workspace tree. Enterprise administrators should note that cloud sessions are now opt-in, so organizations that never set the toggle will find them disabled.

/voice dictation

Speak your prompts instead of typing them. Start a recording with /voice or by holding Space, and partial text streams into the prompt as you talk until you press Enter or it auto-stops on silence. By default your speech is transcribed on your own machine with Whisper, so no audio leaves your computer and no cloud API key is required. The model downloads once, behind an explicit confirmation, on first use.

Cloud sessions are now opt-in (v3)

Cloud sessions are now disabled unless an administrator explicitly turns on Cloud Sessions in the Kiro console. Because an unset toggle now resolves to disabled, organizations that never configured it will find cloud sessions unavailable until an admin opts in.

Spec review screen (v3)

Press Ctrl+X at a spec phase checkpoint to read the phase document in place and stage line comments on the parts you want changed. When you answer the checkpoint question, every staged comment goes to the agent as one revision request, so reading a document and asking for changes stays in a single screen.

Nested AGENTS.md steering (v3)

AGENTS.md files now load as steering context from anywhere in your workspace tree, not just the workspace root and ~/.kiro/steering/. Put an AGENTS.md next to the code it describes, and the agent picks it up alongside your other steering files.
