    Enhancements

    • Scan to Cloud Security (OneDrive for Business): Added a security enhancement that requires the user's Microsoft account to match their primary email address registered in PaperCut MF when scanning to cloud for OneDrive. This prevents documents from being scanned to unauthorized personal accounts. See here for more information. [PO-3195]
    • Integrated Scanning: Added a default Recipient Name option for Scan to Fax. This ensures the field is automatically populated for manual faxes or address book contacts missing a recipient name. (Not currently supported on Ricoh, Kyocera, or Lexmark). [PO-3809]
    • Subscription Management: Added the ability to assign custom Friendly Labels to individual subscriptions on the About > Registration page. System Administrators and Reseller Partners can now differentiate between multiple subscriptions (e.g., labelling one as "Main Office" and another as "Ricoh Fleet"). [PO-3820]
    • Admin rights: Added the ability to restrict admin access to the About > Registration page. Please note that you may need to adjust your admin user or admin group access rights to ensure admins can continue to access this page. See PO-3252 for more information. [PO-3252]
    • Job Logs and Reporting: Added the ability to filter on Mobility Print jobs within the Job Log and various Reports. Additionally, the Google Cloud Print option to filter has been removed following the global retirement of that service. [PO-317, PO-3869, PO-3888]
    • Admin Interface: In the Printers > Printer List and Devices > Device List sections, the physical identifier (IP address or hostname) is now a clickable link. [PO-3138]

    Fixes

    • Fixed an issue in the admin interface where the confirmation prompt for resetting cloud storage tokens displayed confusing instructions. The prompt now aligns correctly with the browser's OK and Cancel buttons. [PO-3857]
    • Fixed an issue on the Registration page where perpetual promotions (like Pioneer or Trailblazer) incorrectly displayed a far-future expiration date. These now display as 'N/A' to clearly indicate they do not expire. [PO-3897]
    • Fixed an issue in the Application logs where an error 'Network Payment API not enabled' was incorrectly recorded. [PO-2482]
    • Fixed an issue where bulk updates to users or printers (such as revoking Scan to Cloud tokens) could result in duplicate entries appearing in the Audit Log. [PO-3812]
    • Fixed an issue where some images and icons across the admin and user interfaces lacked alternative text (alt-text). This ensures a better experience for users who rely on screen readers as part of our ongoing commitment to accessibility. [PO-3808]
    • Fixed an issue during the initial setup process where selecting 'English (world)' as the server location caused an error. See known issue PO-3804 for more information. [PO-3804]
    • Fixed an issue where the Add Credit page was missing for TouchNet users after upgrading to v25.0. [PO-3795]
    • Fixed a security-related issue on the User/Group Sync page. [PO-3742]
    • Fixed an issue in the new responsive user interface where filter toggle buttons (such as those in Transaction History or Recent Print Jobs) would not clear active filters. See known issue PO-3028 for more information. [PO-3028]
    • Fixed an issue where the Windows local client installer incorrectly displayed PaperCut MF branding when being installed from a PaperCut NG server. [PO-1401]
    • Fixed an issue where users printing from devices without a native client (such as Chromebooks) were not prompted to select a shared account. Previously, print jobs would time out. This fix restores the expected 'File > Print' workflow for Mobility Print and the PaperCut Chrome Extension. [PO-3794]
    • Fixed an issue that caused the PaperCut admin interface About > Registration page to load slowly. [PO-3928]
    • Fixed an issue where users were overcharged when a multi-copy, duplex print job was cancelled mid-way through printing on devices using Hardware Page Check. [PO-3843]
    • New payment gateway version available. For more information, see Payment Gateway Module Release history. [PO-2482, PO-3795]

    Copier / Device Integration

    • Canon Gen3 1.3.3*: Fixed an issue where some devices would fail to connect to the PaperCut Application Server if TLS 1.3 was unavailable. The embedded browser now automatically falls back to compatible TLS versions (e.g. TLS 1.2). [CDSS-2566]
    • Added support for automatic certificate acceptance. When using a valid server certificate issued by a trusted Root Certificate Authority (CA), manual administrator approval is no longer required at the device. [CDSS-5961]
    • Fixed an issue that caused incorrect reporting of the ledger paper size on Canon Devices. [CDSS-6024]
    • Lexmark (eSF), Sharp eSF, Toshiba eSF, Fujifilm eSF, and Xerox eSF devices (FLS 3.1.18)*: Fixed an issue where the "Mask identity number" setting was not applied when users entered their ID via the on-screen numeric keypad. [CDSS-6479, CDSS-6351]
    • Kyocera 3.3.5*: Fixed an issue where the app sometimes locked up after a failed integrated scan job. [CDSS-6371]
    • Fixed an issue on Japanese language devices where the onscreen keyboard did not default to the standard alphanumeric (ASCII) character set on login screens. [CDSS-5868]
    • Konica Minolta: Fixed an issue where the Integrated Scanning button in the native Device Functions menu was incorrectly labeled as DEFAULT. The button now correctly displays Scan by default or follows the custom label defined in a new configuration key available in the embedded manual. [CDSS-6404]
    • Fixed an issue where the 'Unlicensed' mode message was not appearing on the device login screen. Additionally, System Administrators can now set a custom login message for these devices using a configuration key. [CDSS-6349]
    • Sharp OSA N2: Fixed an issue where temporary files were not being automatically deleted from the server after a scan was completed. [PO-3892]
    • Print Provider Fixed an issue on macOS Tahoe 26.2 where print jobs were not tracked or processed correctly. See known issue PIE-971 for more information. [PIE-971]

    Enhancements

    • Device Expiry: For unlicensed devices , we've improved the behavior to allow continued access to the device's native functionality. Previously, an unlicensed device would prevent any login. Now, users can log in to the device for native features, but cannot access PaperCut-specific functions like Print Release and Integrated Scanning. [PO-3577]
    • Administrators can now create new embedded devices even when an entitlement is not available. These devices will operate in an 'Unlicensed Mode', which still allows for the use of native device functionality. However, PaperCut-specific features such as Print Release, Integrated Scanning, and Card Self-Association will not be available in this mode. [PO-3608]
    • Document Processing: Document Processing settings section, under Options > Capture. A new banner has been added to remind administrators that to make Document Processing scan actions visible on devices, they must also enable 'Enable Document Processing Scan Actions' on each device's individual settings page. [PO-3423]
    • When creating a scan action, if the required self-hosted Document Processing setup is incomplete, a new warning message is displayed. [PO-3421]
    • Improved Document Processing system reliability and recovery. [PO-3590]
    • Reporting: Significantly improved the performance of several built-in reports, including the 'User - Shared Account Usage' and 'Department Usage' reports. When you use complex filtering options, these reports now load much faster. [PO-3160]
    • Web Print: For Windows now runs on a 64-bit architecture, which significantly improves rendering performance and reduces processing time. In addition, new checks have been implemented to ensure that password-protected or encrypted documents and those with printing restrictions are identified and blocked, preventing failed print jobs. [PIE-935]

    Fixes

    • Fixed an issue where the 'Device Details' page and other scan-related features would fail to load if the system.scan.ocr.mode advanced configuration key had an invalid or blank value. [PO-3560]
    • Fixed an issue where the installation package for our Payment Gateway was updated to use a generic PaperCut logo, ensuring consistency across both PaperCut NG and PaperCut MF. [PO-3534]
    • Fixed an issue where temporary scan job data was not automatically cleaned up from the mapdb database on the filesystem. Note: Any in-progress or pending scan jobs will be removed with this update. [PO-3527, PO-3509]
    • Fixed an issue where disabling a device with Document Processing enabled would not release the license entitlement. [PO-3327]
    • Fixed an issue where administrators with printer group restrictions could not access the 'Jobs Pending Release' page or the direct job release page. See known issue PO-3648 for more information.
    • Fixed an issue that caused an error page to display when filtering the Printers or Devices pages in the Admin console by Alternative ID Number. See known issue PO-3690 for more information. Note: The fix is included in the updated build 74323 and onwards.
    • Fixed an issue where attempting to upload a Not-For-Resale (NFR) or Trial license could fail and display an 'Unable to resolve expression' error. See known issue PO-3679 for more information. Note: The fix is included in the updated build 74323 and onwards.
    • Fixed an issue in the installer where an existing license file could sometimes cause a 'JRE file not found' error during an upgrade. See known issue PO-3701 for more information. Note: The fix is included in the updated build 74376.

    Copier / Device Integration Enhancements

    • Device Customization: System Administrators can now customize the labels for Access Device and Scan that appear on the Home screen of the following MFD brands. Please see the embedded manuals for the configuration keys. [CDSS-3299]: Canon (MEAP) Fujifilm Fujixerox AIP 5.0+ HP OXP KM 3.1+ and 4.0+ Sharp HTML Osa Browser N2+ Toshiba V3 Xerox EIP 1.5+
    • Fixes
      • Fixed an issue that caused an error message to appear on a device when a scan action was configured with an unsupported paper size. [CDSS-5809]
      • HP OXP: Fixed an issue on 4.3-inch screens where the Home button on the device's screen was unresponsive or difficult to press. The button is now correctly sized and positioned to ensure it is always responsive. [CDSS-5834]
      • Konica Minolta: Fixed an issue where using card-swipe on some devices caused the login attempt to be logged twice in the Application Log. [CDSS-3483]
      • Fixed an issue on some devices where an 'authentication failure' message displayed incorrectly during a user's login attempt. [CDSS-5661]

    Print / Provider Enhancements

    • Print Provider
      • Improved SNMP monitoring for the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4303 series. PaperCut now reliably reads the device's serial number and toner levels. [PIE-782]
      • Fixed an issue where PaperCut would not correctly report when a large-capacity paper tray was empty on some devices. [PIE-900]
    • Universal Print Connector: Bundled the latest Universal Print Connector v2024-08-07-1452. For more information, see Universal Print Connector release notes . [PIE-799]
    • The PaperCut installer now automatically adds a firewall exception for outgoing port 9151. [PIE-943]
    • Fixed a daily maintenance task check issue that caused a 'No toner information received' message to be displayed on the PaperCut Admin interface page. Toner levels are now correctly checked and displayed. [PIE-931]
    • Email to Print: Improved debug logging to help administrators diagnose and troubleshoot potential performance issues with Email to Print jobs. [PIE-924]
    • The default Print Provider configuration has been updated to ensure job identifiers are unique across all installations. This change significantly simplifies the setup and maintenance of environments that utilize load balancers between Print Providers and the Application Server. [PIE-789]
    • Fixed an issue where the Print Archiving feature would fail to generate the job image (PNG) when using the Fuji ApeosPort-V C3376 PCL 6 driver on Windows, specifically when the print job's media source was set to Tray 1. [PIE-682]
    • Fixed an issue where print jobs submitted from Google Chrome browser on macOS using the Sharp PostScript printer driver could fail grayscale conversion. [PIE-919]
    • Fixed an issue on Linux and Mac where print jobs could sometimes remain stuck in the queue, even after the underlying CUPS printing component failed . [PIE-926]
    • Fixed an issue affecting PDL Transform scripts where a specific string format (containing a number followed immediately by text) was incorrectly interpreted during processing. This parsing error would cause the entire PDL transform to fail when applied to a print job. [PIE-933]
    • Fixed an issue where the Print Provider would incorrectly monitor the output of the PowerPDF virtual printer driver. PaperCut will now correctly ignore this driver. [PIE-942]

    New Features

    • Advanced Scanning Allows sysadmins to collect controlled and validated metadata directly at the MFD. This new capability significantly enhances workflow automation for document classification, routing, archiving, and integration with other business systems.
    • Please note: Deploying Advanced Scan Actions requires specific entitlements in your PaperCut MF license or subscription. For more details, contact your PaperCut Reseller.
    • Capture Detailed Information at the MFD: This new feature significantly enhances the data collection capabilities of Integrated Scanning. It allows System Administrators to configure highly customizable metadata fields directly at the MFD. This enables more granular and accurate categorization of scanned documents, improving organization and searchability for users, and providing sysadmins with greater control over data capture workflows.
    • New field types: For comprehensive data capture at the device, including:
      • Text and numeric input fields: For free-form text and numeric entry. Includes regular expression validation for text fields.
      • List box dropdown: For pre-defined selections. Enables standardized data input.
      • CSV data source lookup: Allows sysadmins to populate dropdown lists from external CSV files dynamically. Ideal for integrating with existing business data such as customer lists, project codes, cost centers, or client IDs.
    • MF address book user lookup: Allows users to search and select other PaperCut users directly from the directory at the MFD. Simplifies workflows for tasks like direct email or scanning to another user's home folder. [PO-119]
    • Set mandatory fields: Administrators can define whether each metadata field is optional or mandatory for end-users.
    • Advanced Scan to Fax: Support for Linux environments: Added Advanced Scan to Fax for PaperCut MF installations on Linux servers. This allows Linux customers to configure and utilize API-based Advanced Scan to Fax actions in Linux-based deployments. [PO-2997]

    Core infrastructure and security uplift

Security: PaperCut NG/MF version 25 includes significant upgrades of several third-party dependencies, core dependencies and other improvements. [PO-2624, PO-2613, PO-803, PO-2800, PO-2802]

    • New ZGC Garbage Collector: PaperCut NG/MF now utilizes the Z Garbage Collector (ZGC). This advanced garbage collector significantly reduces application pause times, even with very large memory heaps, leading to more consistent and responsive performance for your PaperCut environment. [PO-3250, PO-3454]

    • Improved the display of currency signs and formatting for various regions. [PO-3520]

    • Database driver management

      • Better visibility and alerts: The 'About' tab in the Admin Interface now displays database and driver versions to help with troubleshooting. Also includes in-product alerts for outdated driver detection. [PO-3092, PO-3089]
      • Controlled updates: Updating to newer, endorsed drivers is a deliberate, manual step. This puts you in full control, especially for complex database setups. For all new v25 installs you'll find these endorsed drivers packaged in [install dir]/repository/database-drivers/. [PO-2979]
    • Fixes

      • Fixed an issue where users with Azure AD accounts and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) enabled experienced a login loop and couldn't log in to Mobile Release. [PO-3325]
      • Fixed an issue where external databases drivers were overwritten on upgrades. When upgrading to v25, existing database drivers are now persistent because they are moved to the new [install dir]/server/lib-ext/ location. [PO-3004, PO-3088, PO-2413]
      • Fixed an issue in environments with a large number of users, where the Application Server could use excessive memory when performing entitlements checks. [PO-3609]
      • Fixed an issue when using Integrated scanning with OCR, where cloud scan jobs could be incorrectly cancelled due to the max job size being exceeded prior to compression. Scan job sizes are now always calculated after compression. [CEDU-1900]

    Copier / Device Integration Enhancements

    • Lexmark (eSF), Sharp eSF, Toshiba eSF, Fujifilm eSF, and Xerox eSF devices: v3.1.15* These MFDs now support Advanced Scan to Fax. This enables Scan Actions to be configured for fax submissions, leveraging our supported fax API integrations like RightFax, XM Fax, Retarus, Concord, eGoldFax, or GoFax. [CDSS-276]

    • Integrated Scan actions now automatically detect page sizes. This enhancement supports scanning documents with mixed paper sizes, streamlining the scanning workflow and improving accuracy for System Administrators. [CDSS-4366]

    • Fixes

      • Lexmark: Allow users to scan simplex jobs on the flatbed even if the "duplex" option has been selected. Previously, an error prompt would force the user to load paper into the document feeder. [CDSS-3323]
      • Fixed an issue that caused a generic invalid authentication error to be displayed when a user attempted to associate a card using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). A more appropriate and helpful message is now displayed. [CDSS-4653]
      • Added a new configuration key, ext-device.andlt;oem>.id.number-pad. This key allows administrators to choose whether a numeric keypad or a standard keyboard is displayed on the device for users to enter their ID number. The default setting is N, which uses a standard keyboard. [CDSS-4689]
      • Fixed an issue where text on the 'Account Confirmation' page could be cut off or run off the touchscreen. [CDSS-2387]
      • Ricoh: The Remote Operation Console (ROC), used for deploying PaperCut MF embedded applications to Ricoh devices, has been updated to version 3.8.9. This improves the reliability and functionality of remotely installing PaperCut MF embedded applications on Ricoh devices. [CDSS-5061, CDSS-4711]
      • Fujifilm: Fixed an issue where job tracking on the device failed after enabling ‘Notify Job Completion by Email' on the MFD for native faxes. [CDSS-5635]
      • Konica Minolta: Now supports Advanced Scan to Fax. This enables Scan Actions to be configured for fax submissions, leveraging our supported fax API integrations like RightFax, XM Fax, Retarus, Concord, eGoldFax, or GoFax. [CDSS-5292]
    • Print Provider

      • Fixed an issue on Windows where print jobs that were redirected to a different printer were incorrectly recounted, potentially leading to double charges for users. This occurred when the system language was set to Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, or Italian. [PIE-838]
      • Fixed an issue that caused the PaperCut MF Client installer to display an incorrect version number for the PaperCut user client. [PO-2272, PIE-927]

    24.1.8

PaperCut MF 24 delivers major changes and licensing shifts with new per-device cloud document processing, a Canada hosting region, and admin UI updates. Also adds self-hosted processing, scan action visibility, and various fixes for improved stability and performance.

    Important PaperCut MF version 24

contains significant changes including internet connection requirements and licensing implications for all customers upgrading to version 24. Please review Important points to know about PaperCut MF version 24 before upgrading.

    Enhancements

Self-hosted document processing now included: This is a configurable feature in 24.1.8 and later that requires no additional license. For the setup steps please see the following link.
New cloud document processing licensing model (Effective July 1, 2025): Cloud Document Processing is now a per-device licensing model, requiring specific device entitlements. This only impacts document processing, not Scan to Cloud destinations such as Google Drive or OneDrive. If you are an existing active MandS customer using cloud document processing, this will be honoured and you will be unaffected by this update.
Scan action visibility: A new option has been introduced to control the visibility of Document Processing-based scan actions on devices. This setting applies to both self-hosted and cloud-hosted Document Processing configurations.
Canada Hosting Region for Cloud Services (Effective July 1, 2025): We've added a new hosting region in Canada for PaperCut MF Cloud Services. This means Canadian organizations can now process their scan-to-cloud and document processing data within Canada, helping meet local data residency and privacy requirements (like PIPEDA) and improving performance.
Admin interface updates: All document processing -based settings are now grouped under the Document Processing heading for scan action setups. A new status column has been added to the Scan Action list view, making it easy to identify scan actions that have Document Processing settings enabled.
