Changes

Added a License & Entitlement section to the product details page, showing Licensed Seats, License Expires, Entitlement, Seat Gap, Unlicensed Seats, and Est. Annual Surplus Value for each tracked product, so you can spot audit exposure and reclaim unused seats before renewal.

Added a certainty-dot indicator to the Pricing & Spend, Product Lifecycle, and Category sections of the product details page, labeled AI-estimated or Provided depending on whether you supplied your own value.

Added a Certainty rating for the EOL and EOS dates on the Version Lifecycle page.

Expanded Cost Certainty and added a new Category Certainty rating, both on a 6-point scale. AI-derived estimates rate 1 to 5. A rating of 6 indicates a customer-provided value.

Added a View license and Entitlement in Tanium Atlas capability. Ask Atlas to show your software license and entitlement information to review Licensed Seats, License Expires, Entitlement, Seat Gap, Unlicensed Seats, and Est. Annual Surplus Value, and filter to over-deployed products to find your greatest audit exposure.

Added a Category Certainty column to the Cost view of the Software Inventory & Usage panel.

Added the ability to override AI-estimated values in Tanium Atlas. Using a natural-language prompt, you can now correct or supply your own data for: Category, Subcategory, License cost, EOL date, EOS date, License expiration date, Licensed seat count, Parent product, Product lifecycle classification, and Vendor. An override takes precedence over the AI-estimated value everywhere it appears. You can ask Atlas to remove an override to revert to the AI-estimated value.

NOTE: For category, subcategory, and lifecycle overrides, you can only apply predefined values that Asset already provides. Asset does not apply a value it does not recognize.

Just a friendly reminder as we get closer to the next phase of the Legacy Asset Sensor deprecation.

For Cloud

The September 2026 milestone is right around the corner. Starting then, the deprecated Legacy Asset Sensors will be fully purged from Tanium Asset, so if you haven't already moved your queries, reports, dashboards, and integrations over to the Tanium Platform Core Sensors, now's the time.

For On-Premises

Don't forget that the upcoming SAR 2026H2 release will remove these same Legacy Asset Sensors from on-prem installations. It's a great time to double check your environment for any lingering usage before that release lands.

Asset improvements in Tanium Atlas

• Added an Installed Software Versions - Obsolete and Upgradable panel in Tanium Atlas that surfaces version and lifecycle details, including EOL and EOS dates, to help you plan upgrades and remediate obsolete versions.
• Added Executive Summary - Software License and Waste and Top Software License Waste Products panels in Tanium Atlas, estimating reclaimable savings from underused licenses and highlighting top vendors and products by waste.
• Added the ability to browse detected software anomalies by endpoint in Tanium Atlas, to find endpoints matching specific risk conditions.

Improvements in Tanium Asset workbench

• Added Est. Annual Cost/Seat and Est. Annual Waste per application cost to the Software Inventory & Usage All Products grid.
• Migrated Software Inventory & Usage (SIU) product and vendor tracking, and related system attributes, to a modernized, sensor-based data platform for improved performance and scale.
  • NOTE: As part of this migration, the SIU workbench (Products, Vendors, Tracked Products, Usage) now retains approximately 30 days of history. Asset Views and Reports that reference SIU data are unaffected and continue to retain data under their normal, longer-term retention periods.
• Added a new Tracked Products view for managing tracked software fleet-wide.
• Expanded SIU and Anomaly Detection read access to the Asset Report Reader role. Track/untrack and exclusion actions remain restricted to Operator/Administrator.
• SIU tracking changes and Anomalous Software "allowed software" changes now require fleet ("All Computers") management authority in addition to configuration-item write.
• Updated the Asset Report Reader and Asset Operator roles to include additional sensor read permissions required to visualize SIU and Anomalous Software data.
• The SIU workbench now hides tracking and approval actions from read-only or non-fleet users, so the interface matches what each user is permitted to do.
• Upgraded various third-party libraries to newer versions.
• User management rights now determine what you can view in SIU.

Asset improvements in Tanium Atlas

Asset now surfaces AI-estimated software costs in Tanium Atlas. The following data is available:

• Billing Model (per seat, usage-based, flat subscription, enterprise agreement, perpetual license, or free), an estimated Cost Range in that billing model's native unit, and the Currency the estimate is provided in.
• Endpoint annual cost shows the normalized annual cost per endpoint, so the priciest applications per machine can be identified at a glance.
• Total annual cost shows the fleet-wide annual spend for an application, to surface what is costing the organization the most.
• Reclaimable annual cost estimates the annual spend that could be recovered by removing unused installations.
• Cost certainty indicates confidence in the estimate. Certainty is maxed after a customer-provided cost is available.
• Usage-based and perpetual (one-time) applications do not display a normalized annual cost, since one would not be meaningful. These applications remain filterable by billing model.
• Pricing data is read-only: costs are surfaced for oversight and cannot be created, edited, or managed from the grid.
  • NOTE: Cost values are AI-derived estimates and may reflect a wide range. Pricing visibility is not role-gated in this release; any user with access to the Asset grid can see estimated costs.
  • NOTE: The Tanium Asset Software Inventory & Usage page displays only .
• Added server-side sort and filter on endpoint annual cost, total annual cost, reclaimable annual cost, cost certainty, billing model, and currency.

• Fixed an issue where Anomalous Software APIs used the service's management rights instead of the requesting user's, causing incorrect data scoping.

Anomalous Software detection

Asset now includes an Anomalous Software page that identifies software on endpoints that is atypical, unauthorized, or carries an elevated risk profile. Detected applications are continuously analyzed and assigned a risk level (High, Moderate, or Low) along with a classification that explains why the software was flagged. Classifications include Data Exfiltration, Remote Access, Entertainment, Security, AI Tools, No Risk, Unknown and Other.

• When new anomalous software is detected, a Guide notification appears in the Tanium Console with the total count of anomalous applications and the most recently detected items. Clicking Review Software in the notification opens the Anomalous Software page directly.
• The Anomalous Software page has High Risk and Moderate & Low Risk sections, allowing administrators to prioritize triage.
• Each row displays the vendor, application name, number of anomalous installations, first-detected date, classification, and a description of why the application was flagged.
• Selecting an application reveals the specific endpoints where it is installed.
• The Anomaly Classification filter narrows the view to a single category, such as Data Exfiltration or Remote Access.
• The Endpoints with High Anomalous Software Count view identifies individual endpoints with 4 or more High Risk anomalies.
• Administrators can mark one or more applications as approved, scoped to all computer groups or specific computer groups. Approved software is excluded from future detections and moved to the Approved Software grid.

Requirements

• Anomalous Software detection is available for Tanium Cloud customers on Windows and macOS endpoints.
• Tanium AI Features and Tanium Ask must be enabled in platform settings.
• Required permissions: Token - Use (Tanium Guide); Asset Report read and Asset Configuration Item write (Tanium Asset).
• Administrator-level permissions are required to configure software exclusions from Guide notifications.

Legacy Asset Sensor Deprecation

Overview

As part of Tanium’s ongoing sensor modernization initiative, several Legacy Asset Sensors have been deprecated and superseded by Tanium Platform Core Sensors.

Data collection for these sensors was migrated to Core Sensors in August 2023, and the Legacy Asset Sensors were formally marked Deprecated in July 2025. While the deprecated sensors currently continue to return data, they will soon stop returning values and instead display informational messaging directing users to migrate to the recommended Core Sensors.

Timeline and Impact

• August 2023 – Data collection migrated from Legacy Asset Sensors to Tanium Platform Core Sensors.
• July 2025 – Legacy Asset Sensors formally marked as Deprecated.
• May 2026 – Deprecated sensors will no longer return data and will display migration messaging only.
• September 2026 – Deprecated sensors will be fully purged from Tanium Asset.
• SAR 2026H2 (On-Premises) – Deprecated sensors will be removed from on-premises installations of Tanium Asset.

Required Customer Action

To avoid data loss or reporting disruptions, customers should identify any usage of deprecated Asset Sensors and migrate all queries, reports, dashboards, and integrations to the corresponding Tanium Platform Core Sensors by May 2026.
