We’ve released a new stable update with a security patch, several visual fixes, and the Sharing Point feature now available to all users.

What’s new

Security & Platform

Sharing Point

• Feature is now enabled on stable for all users
• Fixed: text in the Sharing Point box could not be copied
• Fixed: icon turned blue after changing the theme

Color Themes 2.0

(available in Early Bird)

• Added Aurora and Midsommar wallpapers
• Fixed: video wallpaper not highlighted in the Theme Editor on load
• Fixed: Classic Theme was missing wallpapers in the Theme Editor
• Fixed: Easy Setup carousel did not reset to the beginning after a theme change

UI Fixes

• Fixed: download icon did not show the completion dot
• Fixed: AI button hover effect was barely visible on some themes
• Fixed: “Clear data on exit” checkbox background did not match the border color
• Fixed: “Clear data on exit” button text was not white in light mode

This developer release focuses on crash fixes, improvements in Vertical Tabs, and continued stabilization of Color Themes 2.0 and Sharing Point.

Crash Fixes

• Fixed: crash at opera::vibes::(anonymous namespace)::GetColorAtPicker
• Fixed: crash when drag-and-dropping a tab island out of the Vertical Tabs panel

Vertical Tabs

• Fixed: tab island disappearing from recently closed history with no trace
• Fixed: loading spinner missing on vertical tabs
• Fixed: pinned tabs could not be moved within the pinned section
• Fixed: white font rendering for tab islands in light mode

Color Themes 2.0

• UX experience adjustments applied
• Fixed: transition animation from collapsed to expanded icon did not match design
• Fixed: video wallpaper not highlighted on wallpaper section load
• Fixed: Classic Theme missing wallpapers in Theme Editor
• Fixed: Easy Setup wallpaper section did not scroll to beginning after theme change
• Fixed: Easy Setup carousel did not reset to beginning after theme change

Sharing Point

• Fixed: text in the Sharing Point box could not be copied

Layout & UI

• Fixed: no gap between the sidebar and the rest of the UI (when Vertical Tabs are turned off in Early Bird while vertical tab strip is in use)
• Fixed: system buttons were too close to the AI button on Windows and Linux
• Fixed: AI button hover effect barely visible on some themes
• Fixed: CSS code visible in print preview

Clear Data on Exit

• Fixed: checkbox background did not match border color
• Fixed: button text was not white in light mode
• Fixed: info popup did not follow the current theme

Other

• Fixed: missing dot on download icon when download completed
• Fixed: opera://settings/onStartup was empty on Mac and Linux

What’s new?

• UI fixes: corrected Settings → System layout, removed empty space in toolbar (after disabling AI Chat) and sidebar area, restored missing wallpaper copy and theme previews in opera://settings, fixed disappearing domain chips in split screen.
• Vertical Tabs (available in Early Bird): smoother incremental updates, better multi-tab drag with pinned tabs and split screens, pinned tabs stay on top, no more strip in full screen (incl. macOS fix), fixed crash when dragging into split screen.

Opera has released a new initial update, it is based on Chromium version: 148.0.7778.97

Here’s what changed in this update:

Vertical Tabs (available in Early Bird)

• Drag and drop entire tab islands as a group
• Smooth animations when expanding/collapsing tab islands
• Fixed: tab strip staying open in theme editor
• Fixed: too much space between tab strip and page content
• Fixed: tab islands ungrouping randomly after restart

Google Meet

• Fixed: PiP buttons requiring multiple clicks on Windows
• Fixed: PiP window resizing only working from the top edge

Other Fixes

• Fixed: “Next” button hidden on 14-inch displays during onboarding
• Fixed: split screen icon appearing white in light mode
• Fixed: missing hover effect on “add new tab” button
• Fixed: a browser crash in vertical tab panel visibility

Known issue:

• We’re aware of a bug affecting the split screen address bar. If you expand a domain chip by double-clicking it, press ESC to close, and then drag the chip to reorder, the domain chips disappear entirely. A full browser restart is required to bring them back. We’re working on a fix.

Opera 131.0.5877.74 is here, bringing a round of bug fixes:

• Split screen: Fixed crash on double-clicking the address bar, unclickable split screens on macOS, missing right-click context menus and broken tab dragging into islands.
• Vertical tabs (available in Early Bird) got several fixes: fixed issues with visual glitches with sidebar autohide, disappearing tab panels, or the address bar incorrectly spanning full width on Mac. The duplicated tab marker has also been removed.
• Clear Data on Exit now matches the intended design and no longer lets synced data be wiped on exit.
• Volume Booster no longer jumps to 98% on a single click.

Opera Developer 132.0.5903.0 is here!

A new Developer build is available, with an updated Chromium base and several fixes across the browser:

• Chromium has been updated to version 148.0.7778.40.
• The Browser Connector in Toolbar is now enabled.
• Vertical tabs received several fixes: dragging a link from a webpage onto the vertical tab strip now correctly opens it as a new tab, tabs no longer swap positions when switching between them quickly, and the duplicated tab marker has been removed.
• The Volume Booster issue where clicking the dot jumps the level to 98% has been fixed.

Known issue: Google Meet PiP buttons require multiple clicks to respond. We’re aware of the problem and will be working on a fix in the upcoming builds.

Dear Opera Users!

Opera has released a new initial update, version: 131.0.5877.5

Browser is now based on Chromium 147.0.7727.56.

Many of the changes in this release ranging from crash fixes and UI refinements to improvements in features like Picture-in-Picture, sidebar behavior, and tab handling, were previously introduced and tested in the Developer channel. With this update, they have now made their way into the stable release.

New Ad Blocker (available in Early Bird): A new Ad Blocker implementation is now available in Early Bird, offering improved performance and expanded blocking capabilities.
