Hello!

We’ve rolled out a new Opera Stable release (version: 135.0.5973.123) with a new tab order preference for vertical tabs, and a round of stability and UI fixes.

Key highlights

• Backported the fix for CVE-2026-87491
• Added a preference to control where new tabs open in vertical tabs, available in both Settings and Easy Setup, (enabled the flag #new-tab-on-top on all streams) -> read more here: We’re turning Vertical Tabs upside down in Opera
• Added support for the chrome.sidePanel API: extensions can now render their own side panels, complete with a top bar
• Fixed traffic lights not reacting to hover on macOS 26
• Fixed bookmarks bar disappearing after exiting full screen
• Fixed crashes in tab media list refresh, tab collection move logic, and Vertical Tabs-related crashes on macOS
• Fixed close button not being visible in collapsed tabs after clicking it
• Fixed a stray single-tab island being created when opening split-screen links, and fixed dragging a split-screen tab into a tab island
• Fixed WhatsApp panel not opening with its shortcut
• Fixed the search-copy popup appearing in random places

Hello!

We’ve rolled out a new Opera Developer focused on stability and polish.

We fixed an issue where sessions could be wiped after a crash loop instead of simply skipping page loads, along with several crashes affecting the tab media list, tab collection moves, and Vertical Tabs-related crashes.

Split screen also got a round of improvements: links opened from split screen no longer create accidental single-tab islands, and split-screen tabs can once again be dragged into tab islands as expected.

Also, the React Settings now includes the missing JavaScript icons, points to the correct deep-link targets, and has a cleaner, more consistent sidebar width.

We’ve rolled out a new Opera Developer release (version: 137.0.6010.1) with a Chromium bump, a rewritten Settings page, VPN autoconnect enabled, and a new option for where new tabs open in vertical tab strip.

Settings

• We’ve enabled the new React-based Settings page (#opera-one-react-settings)! It’s a full rewrite with a refreshed design.

Vertical Tabs

• Added a preference to control where new tabs open (top or bottom of the tab list), configurable from Settings and Easy Setup

VPN

• Added an option to have the VPN connect automatically when you join a public network (#vpn-free-autoconnect)

• Polished Vertical Tabs: fixed the collapse icon jumping, the panel turning black/white after opening DevTools, and tab island positioning when switching layouts. Also added drag and drop to create tab islands, with animations and a “new tab in tab island” button.
• Fixed the “Make Opera Yours” widget appearing for existing users and after onboarding was completed
• Fixed crashes on Windows in animated UI transitions and improved general responsiveness

We’ve rolled out a new Opera Stable release built on Chromium 150, plus a broad round of polish and stability fixes.

Key highlights

• Updated to Chromium 150.0.7871.212.
• Vertical Tabs are now available for everyone, including the new pinned tab grid layout.
• Google Lens image search from the Start Page is now available for everyone. You can search using a URL, an uploaded file, or a pasted image, and the Start Page search now uses the refreshed Google icon.
• Refreshed Google service icons across the sidebar, sidebar setup, and Speed Dials.
• A round of Split Screen fixes, including a crash, an icon-centring bug, and tabs being incorrectly marked as pinned or active after certain actions.
• Tab reliability improvements: fixed crashes in the tab cycler and when reloading multiple selected tabs, plus fixes for the Google Meet recording indicator.
• Themes no longer freeze when the browser window loses focus, and the theme gallery now adapts to the monitor size.
• Fixes for pop-out and fullscreen behaviour on Windows and Mac
• Various smaller fixes across DevTools, Bookmarks, Browser Connector, Settings, Easy Setup, Speed Dial, and the SoundCloud player icon in Dark Theme.
• Fixed MV2 extensions being blocked on each browser startup and a crash when using a custom search engine.

Known issue: We’re aware of the crash that happens when using snapshot tool. We’re working on a fix and hope to have it resolved soon.
