Welcome to Releasebot! This article contains a few things that will help you get the most from our service.
What is Releasebot?
Releasebot is an aggregator of software release notes, changelogs, and product announcements. The problem Releasebot solves is the difficulty of keeping up with software changelogs, given they tend to be posted and communicated in a wide variety of formats.
Releasebot brings all of those scattered release notes into one place, and brings them to you in the format that you prefer; whether it's email, RSS, or something more technical.
I just signed up. What should I do now?
1. Follow some products or vendors
There's really only one thing you need to do with Releasebot: follow a few vendors and products. Once you've done this, your feed will be populated with the release notes from those vendors and products.
You can browse alphabetically, by category, or search our catalog.
2. Bookmark your Releasebot feed
Your Releasebot feed can now be accessed from releasebot.io/dashboard. Add this to your bookmarks bar, and come back whenever you want to see what's new with the software you care about.
3. Check out your first email digest
In addition to your feed, we send a daily recap of all the release notes in your feed. You should receive it around 9 or 10 AM ET.
4. Try out our API, MCP, or CLI
Give Releasebot to your agents! Every user can access our catalog programatically.
Head over to releasebot.io/notifications to get started.
5. Consider an upgrade to Releasebot Pro
Releasebot is a bootstrapped project, and every subscription goes a long way towards keeping it going. As a thank you for your support, you'll get:
- An ad-free email digest
- 100 releases per email digest (the free plan is limited to ten; about 15% of the emails we send cross the ten-release threshold)
- An RSS feed that contains every release from your feed
- A JSON endpoint that also contains every release from your feed
- Unlimited source submissions
- 5,000 API credits to use across the API, MCP, and CLI
Releasebot Pro costs $50/year, which is less than $1/week! You can also subscribe monthly for $5/month.
6. Submit a few sources
Finally, you can submit sources to Releasebot. We'll add it to the source catalog (if it hasn't been already) and you'll follow the associated product automatically.
How does Releasebot's vendor and product hierarchy work?
Releasebot has a hierarchy that looks like this: Vendors > Products[] > Sources[].
There is a one-to-many relationship between vendors and products, and between products and sources.
Every release notes source we keep an eye on for our users is mapped to a single product, and every release from that source is associated to that product as well.
When a vendor only has one product, or just a single release notes source, we'll create a "General" product that mirrors the vendor itself, so there's always a home for those releases.
For example, Notion has:
- Notion — the vendor page
- Notion > Notion — the "General" product, where Notion's core release notes live
- Notion > Notion Developers — a separate product for developer-focused updates
When you follow a vendor with multiple products, you'll be asked which ones you'd like to follow. We usually recommend starting with the "General" product to get the essential release notes feed for that vendor's core software.
We also make editorial decisions about what constitutes a vendor or a product, based on a variety of factors including source availability. For example, we have vendor pages for Tableau and Slack even though these could be considered "products" of Salesforce.
Enjoy!
