115+ Evernote improvements from the first half of 2026
Evernote releases a major first-half 2026 update with 115+ improvements across editing, AI, audio capture, and mobile. It adds tabs, richer formatting, AI Prompts and Memory, live transcription, dictation, and a more powerful mobile experience, all aimed at making the app a better second brain.
Notes & navigation: The ultimate canvas for your thoughts, ideas, and plans
Your notes should keep up with the way you think—whether that’s a quick checklist, a project plan, or a personal dashboard pulling together text, tasks, links, files, and reminders. These are the core workflows where your second brain takes shape: writing, structuring, and moving through your content with ease. That’s why we’ve spent the past few months investing heavily in these areas. Here are the highlights:
Tabs. One of the most requested updates we’ve made to the Editor is Tabs. As notes grow into longer, more complex workspaces, tabs make it much easier to move between different pieces of work without losing your place. Whether you’re comparing ideas, jumping between related notes, or keeping a project open alongside supporting material, tabs help you stay oriented as you work. You can now also drag to reorder tabs, pin them to the left, and open different account sections in new tabs too, like your calendar.
New types of @ mentions. Type @ to mention a note, notebook, stack, or space, or # to tag inline—linking a specific idea, task, or paragraph to the wider context it belongs to. You can now use @ to mention people too, making it easier to collaborate in shared notes.
New inline toolbar. Keep your favorite editing tools within easy reach with Evernote's new inline toolbar. The updated design makes it possible to style text and adapt content without reaching for a menu and losing your train of thought.
Callout blocks. Callout blocks make key points stand out, drawing your eye to important parts of a note with customizable colors and emojis for added personality.
Toggle blocks. Headers have always been collapsible, but now you can create even more layers inside your notes by adding toggles on regular text. That means long notes stay tidier, with more structure and less clutter.
Mermaid diagrams. Turn a few lines of text into a flowchart or diagram, directly inside your note. Mermaid diagrams are a fast way to map a complex process, design a decision or logic flow, or illustrate how your ideas connect, without switching to another tool. Not sure where to start? Ask AI Assistant to build the diagram for you, so you get the visual without needing to learn any special syntax.
And that’s not all. We’ve also introduced Link View options, text wrapping around images, a more powerful Insert menu, richer Slash commands, floating table of contents, inline HEIC image support, and many other quality-of-life improvements to make writing in Evernote smoother than ever.
AI tools: maximize your productivity
Evernote’s AI Assistant is the built-in chat in Evernote, designed to use your notes and context to give you more relevant help. Because it works with the notes, tasks, and ideas you already trust Evernote to hold, it can tailor its responses to your context.
AI Prompts. Create a reusable AI workflow once, then run it whenever you need it—on an empty note, selected text, a transcript, or a recording. For recurring work like summarizing notes, drafting follow-ups, or turning rough ideas into a clean structure, you save the whole process instead of retyping the request each time. You can also @-mention AI Prompts in a conversation to trigger the workflow.
AI Memory. Instead of re-explaining your preferences, context, or working style every time, tell AI Assistant what matters once and it remembers to tailor all future responses to that preference.
Update multiple items at once. AI Assistant now helps you take action across your account in more ways than ever before: it can create and update tasks and reminders, tidy up your tags and notebooks, set up templates, and rename notes. So a request like "turn these meeting notes into a task list" can happen in a single interaction, rather than through several separate manual steps.
MCP. You asked for a way to connect Evernote to other assistants—so we built a solution. Through our new MCP (Model Context Protocol), you can connect Evernote to AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT. Once connected, you can work with your notes right inside those tools.
AI Transcribe: Capture audio, effortlessly
We've introduced major improvements on how Evernote captures and transforms audio so you never miss important information from the conversations that matter—the back-and-forth of a meeting, the key points in a lecture, an answer in an interview.
Improved transcripts. Earlier this year we improved nearly every step of the audio transcription process. You can start recordings from more places throughout the app, including the toolbar, Calendar, and Meeting Notes. You also can set a transcription language and translate automatically when needed, transcribe audio up to 2 hours long, and keep transcription running in the background while you work in other notes.
Recording modes. We redesigned the audio recording experience around two different needs: meeting recordings and voice notes. Meeting recorder helps you capture conversations with multiple people, while Voice note is built for a single-voice recording you want to capture in your notes.
Live transcription. Follow along as you record with the live transcript appearing in a floating, draggable panel. From there, you can also start a conversation with AI Assistant mid-recording to ask questions or get a recap of the conversation so far.
Automatic transcription. Upload an audio file and Evernote automatically transcribes it, turning the recording into a searchable, editable note without any extra steps.
Dictation. You might be surprised how differently your ideas flow when you're not tied to the keyboard. Some people would rather talk through an idea than write and think at the same time. The new dictation feature lets you do exactly that: talk to Evernote and watch the words appear in real time in your note as you say them.
Taken together, these updates make it easier to turn spoken ideas, meetings, and recordings into searchable, editable notes you can return to, refine, and build on inside Evernote, with less manual work involved.
Evernote Mobile: The best of Evernote, wherever you are
So much gets captured on the go: a whiteboard after a meeting, a receipt, a handwritten note, a document to scan, a thought you dictate while walking, or a task you remember between appointments. That's why we’ve been working hard to make Evernote as powerful on mobile phones and tablets as it is on your desktop computer.
A better mobile editor. The redesigned formatting toolbar puts everyday tools within easy reach, and slash commands and @ mentions now work on mobile too—so you can add structure and context without leaving the keyboard.
AI Assistant on mobile. The AI Assistant, including AI Prompts and AI Memory, is now available on mobile, so you can unlock the full potential of these tools from your phone and tablet too.
Mobile camera and scanning. The camera inside the Evernote mobile app has a cleaner design, with an integrated scan function, PDF support, and manual adjustments (pinch to zoom, tap to focus, and front/rear switching) that make it easier to capture important documents so they don’t get lost.
Wherever you are, capturing your ideas and important information in Evernote is now just as easy as it is when you’re at your computer—and the two systems always stay in sync.
Beyond features
Building the best second brain isn't only about launching new features. It's also about making Evernote faster, smoother, and more reliable. Many of our improvements are the smaller fixes and refinements that quietly remove friction from your everyday actions in Evernote. You can find some examples of those in the full list of improvements we made since January.
Your feedback plays an important role in the process of identifying what changes move the needle for our users. Bug reports and feature requests help shape what we prioritize and where we focus next. Share your ideas and requests with us.
We also added a new What's New page inside the app, so you have one place to catch up on recent updates and find useful resources on any feature. You'll find it at the 📣 icon in your navigation bar on Desktop, or from the menu under your profile icon on Mobile.
What’s next
The first half of 2026 was about making Evernote v11—its core workflows and new capabilities—more powerful than ever: a better Editor, deeper AI workflows, richer capture options, and a stronger mobile experience.
Next, we’re looking at improvements to some of our most-loved Editor features, including tables and tags. We’re also exploring ways to make organizing content across Evernote more efficient and intuitive, with smarter ways to categorize and sort information.
Plus, we’re working towards making every single piece of content you add to Evernote—no matter the format—searchable. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) already lets you find text inside images and files via the Search, but we want to expand that to all your audio content too. The idea is that a voice note from years ago back with an idea can be surfaced when you ask a question about your notes or are looking for mentions of a keyword in Search.
Want to keep up with everything new? Follow along on X, YouTube, or check the 📣 What's New page inside the app to see all the updates in one place.
Until next time,

Introducing Evernote v11: Get to know our smartest update yet
Evernote releases v11 with three major AI features, AI Assistant, Semantic Search, and AI Meeting Notes, plus a refreshed look, updated plans, and key editor and navigation improvements that make note-taking, search, and productivity smarter and more flexible.
Evernote v11 is here! 🚀⭐🔥💥
This long-awaited update marks the first significant Evernote release since v10 was introduced in 2020. In addition to the many improvements already introduced to Evernote since 2023, v11 is full of exciting updates. Hear all about it from Federico, our product lead, in our latest video, or keep reading.
An important milestone for your second brain
V11 isn’t just a new release: it’s a recognition of how far Evernote has come in recent years. We started by laying important new technical foundations, after which we released more than 250 new features and improvements (see the most recent ones here) while also greatly enhancing sync, speed, and reliability. V11 is the start of an exciting next phase of even greater development and innovation.
As before, Evernote remains a powerful tool for note-taking, organization, and information management with the use of simple content building blocks, such as notes, notebooks, spaces, tasks, and tags. With v11, we’re one step closer to realizing our mission to create an intuitive and personalized platform that acts as a second brain for our customers.
Most notably, this release introduces three powerhouse AI features: AI Assistant, Semantic Search, and AI Meeting Notes. All are designed to bring you AI in ways that are useful and uniquely aligned with Evernote’s core strengths to unlock smarter note-taking, organization, and productivity. We thank the many long-time and passionate Evernote users who helped us shape these features.
Along with our cutting-edge new features, we’ve also unveiled a modern new look and logo and updated plans for individual and business users. And, as always, we’re already working on further improvements across the entire platform—starting with a better Editor and navigation experience—as we expand on the long list of updates already released since early 2024.
Keep reading for a deep dive on all the exciting things included in v11 or—even better—download the latest version and explore them for yourself!
Three powerful new AI features
With v11, your Evernote is now smarter than ever. Use our latest AI features to generate, manage, optimize, and quickly retrieve content so you can save time, minimize distractions, and streamline workflows, both within Evernote and across multiple tools.
These new features benefit people of all backgrounds and experience, but can be especially powerful for long-time users with a large amount of information stored within Evernote.
Let’s explore each one separately:
AI AssistantDeveloped in close collaboration with OpenAI, AI Assistant brings the power of large-language models directly into Evernote. Using the new chat feature, you can prompt your AI Assistant to help you in a variety of situations (below we included an example for an upcoming trip to Barcelona).
Search and retrieve content directly from the chat window. AI Assistant integrates Evernote’s extensive search functionalities to easily surface relevant content throughout the course of the chat, either by listing the note(s) or via an excerpt.
Find all my notes related to my upcoming Barcelona trip
Tell me the flight number and departure timeModify or generate content. Ask AI Assistant to extract the key points, identify action items, create summaries, rewrite and rephrase content, and more.
Create a 3-day itinerary based on my notes
List the incomplete tasks in my @Packing list note
Turn the “transit” section of my note into a tableExecute actions across the account. Today, AI Assistant can generate text in new or existing notes, move notes between notebooks or spaces, add existing tags, and find related, context-based information. Soon, AI Assistant will also be able to suggest tags, create and update tasks, and perform bulk actions across multiple notes.
Create a new note with my itinerary
Move it to my @Barcelona notebook
Add @travel-plans tag to this noteSearch the web without leaving the Evernote environment. Ask your AI Assistant to surface helpful additional information and context that can enhance your content and decision-making.
Suggest additions to my itinerary that aren’t in my notes
Anything else I should know about before I go?
AI Assistant is the ultimate conversational companion for any Evernote user, whether you’ve been using the product for ten days or ten years.
AI Assistant is available on Desktop and Web for all Evernote v11 customers. Start a chat from anywhere in Evernote by clicking the button in the lower-right corner. Learn more in the how-to guide.
Semantic SearchEvernote’s search functionality has historically relied on keyword-based queries, which made it difficult to find the right content without the right search term.
We made our first pass at natural language-based search in 2023 with AI-Powered Search. With v11, we’ve integrated a much more powerful AI process to bring you a fully semantic search experience: Searches will now surface information that doesn’t necessarily match your keywords.
Put simply, Evernote now knows if the meaning of your notes is related to your search, and includes the content in your results. For example, searching for “Spain vacation” can surface notes for “Barcelona Trip” and “Valencia Hotel”, even if the terms “Spain” and “vacation” are not included in the resulting notes.
Semantic Search can also identify key details from notes and display them prominently, making it easier to retrieve important information at a glance. For example, searching for “Barcelona flight confirmation” would result in a response of “Your flight ticket for the upcoming Barcelona trip is NS671WU”, including links to the relevant notes.
Semantic Search transforms information retrieval in Evernote—a core component of knowledge management within the platform. It was one of the most frequent customer requests from the past decade and we’re incredibly proud to finally bring it to our user base.
Semantic Search is available on Desktop, Mobile, and Web for all customers using Evernote v11. You’ll find it where your regular search is. Learn more in the how-to guide.
AI Meeting NotesAI Meeting Notes is an evolution of our already-popular AI transcription tool. With this new functionality, you can record in-person, online, or hybrid meetings and generate a transcript (complete with speaker recognition) and summary—all without leaving Evernote. Currently, the maximum time limit is one hour, but we’re already working on making this longer in future iterations.
With AI Meeting Notes, you can stay focused on the conversation as it unfolds without needing to worry about capturing the details. It’s a great tool to use at work—but can also be helpful in many other instances, such as capturing notes in the lecture hall or the minutes of your next book club discussion.
AI Meeting Notes is available on Desktop, Mobile, and Web for all customers using Evernote v11.
After recording your audio, use the “Transcribe” button on Desktop and Web, or tap the audio file on Mobile and click the pen icon to generate your transcript. Then, tap the “Summary” button to auto-generate an AI summary. Learn more in the how-to guide.
Privacy & security are top of mind
All AI features are developed with the highest security, privacy, and data protection considerations in mind. You can find more information here. That said, we also recognize that not everyone wants to use AI tools in their account. In v11, we’ve added a new group of settings in Preferences to enable or disable each AI feature individually.
Beyond AI: even more improvements, a new design, and new plans
V11 isn’t only about AI, it’s about positioning Evernote to thrive for many decades to come. Here’s what else is live with this release:
Editor & navigation updatesIn v11, we’ve combined innovation with several other incremental (yet valuable) improvements. Here’s everything new you can already find in Evernote today:
- A more powerful insert menu. Now, you can search items directly, pin your most used items, easily check keyboard shortcuts, and insert text styles and list items in your notes. Available on Desktop, Web, and Mobile.
- An all-new slash command menu. In addition to a new interface, you can now use the / command to apply any text style, access formatting and alignment options, and choose your text and highlight colors. Plus, quickly find items in the list using newly added aliases. Available on Desktop and Web.
- Custom inline link previews. Choose how internal and external links are displayed in your notes—as a mention, title, preview, or standard URL—for a richer and neater note-taking experience. Link mentions also stay up to date automatically when the name of the source page changes. Available on Desktop, Web, and Mobile.
- New location for your account menu. We’ve moved your account information to the bottom of the sidebar to give priority to key navigation items, like Search and Create a New Note. Available on Desktop and Web.
- Inline link calculations. Evernote can now do basic math as you type, so you can make helpful calculations without leaving your note. Available on Desktop, Web, and Mobile.
Plus, a quick sneak preview of what will be available soon:
- A reimagined Mobile toolbar for easier Mobile editing
- Improved audio recording on Mobile
- Faster and more reliable transcripts
This is just the beginning! Continue to follow our progress on X and YouTube.
Updated logo and refreshed visual identityEvernote has evolved significantly over the past couple of years, and we couldn’t release a major update without giving our favorite green elephant—that’s Mads—some love too. So, we introduced a brand-new Evernote logo and logotype. We also refreshed our website and unified the brand’s overall look and feel, integrating many of the elements that have naturally evolved over time into a cohesive visual identity.
New plans: Introducing Starter, Advanced, and EnterpriseWe’ve introduced two new individual plans—Starter and Advanced—replacing our previous Personal and Professional plans.
Here’s why: In the past several years, we’ve made many Evernote features free to all our customers. Over time, this has made our Personal and Professional plans more similar. For many Evernote users (new and existing), it was no longer straightforward to understand which plan was best for them.
Our new individual plans aim to clarify this:
- Evernote Advanced is great for power users who manage large amounts of content and complex workflows.
- Evernote Starter is ideal for casual or occasional users, or anyone just beginning to build their second brain with Evernote.
- Evernote Free remains a strong option for those just starting out who want to explore everything the product has to offer before building their knowledge management system with Evernote.
You can see pricing and compare what’s included in each plan on our Compare Plans page. You can manage your subscription at any time in your Account settings, and visit this article to learn more.
We’ve also introduced a new Evernote Enterprise plan to replace Evernote Teams and better accommodate the unique needs of our business customers. The Enterprise plan offers teams predictable costs, unlimited scale, a dedicated customer success manager, advanced features, and more. For organizations that don’t need enterprise-level scale, we also offer an Enterprise Flexible plan, which you can use to shape Evernote to meet your unique organizational needs. You can learn more about Evernote Enterprise here.
We hope you’re as excited as we are about the arrival of v11. We look forward to hearing your feedback and introducing many additional features and improvements soon.

Our most productive year yet: 160+ improvements
Evernote releases a year of major improvements focused on faster performance, smoother editing, better search, and a cleaner experience, while also previewing v11’s new AI Assistant, Semantic Search, and AI Meeting Notes for early 2026.
In 2025, we released more improvements than any other year in recent history, and there’s even more to come. Throughout the year, we focused on strengthening Evernote's core to make it faster, more reliable, and easier to use ahead of Evernote v11, a major update coming in early 2026. You can find the complete list of improvements here —we’ll cover the highlights below.
Here's a breakdown of our focus this year:
January-June
In the first half of the year alone, we shipped 110 improvements in just six months, from everyday refinements to bigger upgrades across several Editor, search, collaboration, customization, and AI features, along with overall performance. The result is a faster, more reliable Evernote designed to help you stay organized, productive, and creative.
July-December
In the second half of the year, we shifted our focus to building v11. V11 is the culmination of two years of laying new technical foundations, improving sync and speed, and delivering hundreds of features and refinements. It also introduces three new AI features — AI Assistant, Semantic Search, and AI Meeting Notes —with previews already rolling out to paying customers as we incorporate early feedback ahead of the full release.
Beyond that, we released 50+ additional improvements across the Editor, core workflows, and search, along with incremental improvements to new features in beta.
Below, we’ll walk you through some of the latest improvements released since June 2025 (some of which build on previous improvements from earlier in the year).
✍️ Editor and core workflows
Note-taking is at the heart of Evernote, so we continued to refine the Editor experience to feel simpler and smoother. We removed friction from core workflows like creating, organizing, and formatting notes.
Improved slash commands.
Released February-October 2025.
We're constantly looking for new ways to make slash commands more versatile and useful. You can now:
- Activate the slash command menu inside of headers and tables
- Fix a typo in your command without needing to re-trigger the menu
- Type with confidence, knowing that adding / between letters will no longer trigger the menu by mistake
After making slash commands easier to use, we expanded what you can do with them. We added 16 new options to speed up note-taking while typing, including dynamic date mentions (@Today), Google Calendar events, audio recordings, and more formatting tools.
Improved markdown support for consistent formatting.
Released February-November 2025. When you copy and paste content into Evernote, it now keeps key formatting like bold and italics, headings, lists, links, and block quotes. As of November, formatting for pasted tables and bulleted lists stay intact too.
[Mobile] Improved note headers.
Released July 2025.
Note details are now easier to scan at a glance. You can also add tags from the top of a note, without digging through menus.
[Mobile] Multi-select notes.
Released August 2025.
You can now select multiple notes at once on Mobile. Open the ⋯ menu in any note list, then choose Select notes to take bulk actions.
A smoother audio recording experience.
Released September-October 2025.
Audio recording is easier to access and control. You can now:
- Pause and resume recordings
- Start a recording from the Insert menu and slash commands
- [Desktop] Navigate to other notes and outside of Evernote while recording
Better link display options.
Released December 2025.
Links are now easier to recognize and customize in your notes. Choose how they appear: as a mention, plain text, or a content preview. And when the title of the linked content changes, the mention updates automatically.
Improved Insert menu.
Released November 2025.
We made the Insert menu easier and more intuitive to use, so you can add what you need with just a few clicks.
You can now search for items in the Insert menu on both Mobile and Desktop, and pin your favorite tools to the top of the list by tapping the ⭐. You can also insert text styles and list items directly into your notes.
Keyboard shortcuts for each tool are now clearly visible, making it easier to edit as you type.
Perform inline calculations.
Released November 2025.
Evernote can now do basic math as you type, so you can make helpful calculations without leaving your note. Choose if Evernote shows calculation suggestions when you type "=" in Settings > Preferences > Notes.
Enter focus mode when writing.
Released November 2025.
Minimize distractions by automatically hiding the toolbar while typing in a note. It reappears when you move your mouse again, so you can easily access tools when needed. You can control this setting in Preferences > Notes.
Improved Calendar management.
Released December 2025.
We modernized how events and tasks appear in your calendar, with a new pop-up that makes it easier to view and edit details. Select any item to:
- Create a linked note for an event
- Mark a task as complete without leaving the calendar
🔍 Search
Creating great notes is only half the story—it’s just as important to find them quickly later. Over the course of the year, we improved the core search in Evernote so you can surface right content in fewer steps.
What improved this year, released June-September 2025:
- A refreshed search modal with more room to browse results
- Smarter suggestions as you type, including more than just notes
- More complete results, so you can keep scrolling when you need to
- Clearer in-note matches, so it’s easier to spot what you’re looking for
- New keyboard shortcuts to navigate to a search from anywhere on your device
Improved filtering.
Released December 2025.
We streamlined search filters with a more compact filter menu and a clearer view of your active filters to keep your results front and center. When you search in your Tags and Filters, your search stays visible while you scroll results.
Coming soon…
Search will be more powerful than ever in 2026—keep reading to see what’s next.
🎨 Look & Feel
Released October 2025.
We gave Mads, our beloved green elephant , a fresh new look. We also fine-tuned everyday details across Evernote to make it feel smoother and more intuitive, from redesigned icons to a repositioned account menu in the sidebar. We also brought our modern new look to Evernote.com.
Setting the stage for v11
V11 has been several years in the making: each improvement we've made since 2023 has brought us one step closer to this landmark release. Most recently, preparing for v11 also meant indexing 3.2 billion notes in Evernote's backend to make sure our newest AI features will work correctly.
Product lead, Federico Simionato, explains how this process works and demos the new AI Assistant, AI Meeting Notes, and Semantic Search features in our latest video.
Previews of AI Assistant, Semantic Search, and AI Meeting Notes are already rolling out to paying customers in Evernote v10, and we’re excited by the positive response we’ve received so far. Over the past months, we’ve been putting the finishing touches on these AI features based on your early feedback to make sure they're ready for the official launch.
⚡New AI features are coming in v11
Three new tools—AI Assistant, Semantic Search, and AI Meeting Notes—are built to fit seamlessly into your existing workflows, helping you save time, stay focused, and move from idea to action faster.
AI Assistant
Built in close collaboration with OpenAI
AI Assistant helps you stay organized, manage your tasks, create content, and retrieve the right information through a simple chat. AI Assistant understands your notes and can search the web to answer your requests intelligently.
The final touches we’re adding:
- Mention notes, tasks, tags, and more with @
- New keyboard shortcuts to jump straight to AI Assistant
- The option to regenerate a response with one click
Semantic Search
Describe the idea, topic, or task you’re looking for, and Semantic Search will find the most relevant notes, even if the phrasing doesn’t match.
The final touches we’re adding:
- AI summaries that highlight key results
- Arrow-key navigation to move through results
- A Load more results button to see additional matches
AI Meeting Notes
Automatically turn recordings into meeting notes. AI Meeting Notes transcribes your audio, summarizes the key points, and recognizes speakers so you can assign names and keep everything clear.
The final touches we’re adding:
- Regenerate a transcription with a different setting
- Cue Evernote to remember your preferences for your next recording
- Select the language of your recording, and automatically translate the transcription
💡 We’ve added AI Settings in Preferences so you can tailor AI features to your workflow, including turning individual tools on or off. Learn more here →

6 months, 110 improvements: See top Evernote changes in 2025
Evernote releases a major wave of 110 improvements across note editing, search, collaboration, AI tools, customization, and performance, with new templates, stronger markdown and slash commands, easier sharing, faster sync, and smoother mobile and desktop experiences.
Back in 2024, we set an ambitious goal to release 100 improvements over the course of a year—and we did. 🎉
But we were just warming up. In fact, we’ve already introduced more improvements (110!) in just the past six months alone.
These include everything from little tweaks that makes everyday note-taking smoother to powerful new features that change how you work. Notably, we worked extensively on improving core workflows, Search, collaboration, customization, AI tools, and over-all app performance.
You can find the complete list of all 110 improvements here—we dive into the highlights below. 👇
✍️ Editor and core workflows
At its core, Evernote is a note editor. That's why, no matter how much we expand the product's functionality, we always come back to the basics: making sure that writing, organizing, and retrieving your notes is smoother than ever.
Here’s what’s new in Evernote’s Editor and other core functionalities:
A new Templates experience. Released January 2025.
Earlier this year, we completely redesigned the Templates experience to make it easier to jump directly into note-taking without the need to worry about creating (or recreating) the perfect formatting each time. Now, you can:
- Create custom templates from any note.
- Access your templates directly from the all-new Templates section or apply a template directly to a new note by selecting one from your My templates list.
- Make use of the refreshed Templates gallery, which offers dozens of ready-made templates that you can add to your Evernote account with just one click.
Improved markdown support for consistent formatting. Released February, 2025.
Now, when you copy and paste content from external sources (like ChatGPT 😉), the text will keep its original formatting, including bolded and italicized text as well as headers, lists, links, and block quotes.
Improved slash commands. Released February 2025.
One year after we first released / commands, we're constantly looking for new ways to make them more versatile and useful. Most recently, you can:
- Activate the / command menu inside of headers and tables
- Fix a typo in your command without needing to re-trigger the menu
- Type with confidence, knowing that adding "/" between letters will no longer trigger the menu by mistake
A fresh look for PDF and image editing. Released March 2025.
We rewrote the software we use for in-app PDF and image editing on Desktop and Web, eliminating some long-standing bugs and freshening up the design for a smoother overall experience.
Custom default fonts. Released May 2025.
With this update, you can set your preferred font style, size, and color once and have it applied to every subsequent new note. Easily control the defaults for header and body text via the Aa menu, or by going into your settings.
A better workflow for moving and deleting notes. Released June 2025.
We made some small but important changes to how the Move and Delete note actions work to reduce friction during these key operations. Now:
- When you move or delete a note, the next one opens automatically
- You can navigate directly to the new note location via a link in the confirmation banner
- You can use the Undo option to quickly reverse any action
- You’ll get more from the Move modal itself, including seeing the name of the note being moved and the option to create a new notebook or space directly from the modal
🔍 Search
Creating great notes can only get you so far—it’s equally important that you can retrieve important information quickly and seamlessly. That’s why we recently introduced several improvements to the search experience in Evernote with the intention of helping you find the right content in fewer taps.
A better search modal
- Centered pop-up. Our first change was to bring the activated search modal from a narrow column on the lefthand side to a centered pop-up window. This way, we give more space and visibility to your search results.
- Clearer sections in the default state. Better default states in the search pop-up make it more useful before you even start typing your query. Quickly scan top categories at a glance: Recent searches, Saved searches, Recent notes (grouped by when they were last updated), and Filters.
- Scrollable results. Unlike before, you can now see all of your query results via a scrollable list directly in the modal.
- New keyboard shortcuts. Open notes faster with dedicated shortcuts:
- Press CMD+L or CTRL+L to copy a note link directly from the search modal.
- Press CMD+Enter or CTRL+Enter to open a note in a new window.
- A more convenient default scope. When searching inside a notebook or space, the default scope is now set to Everywhere to get you the best results. If needed, you can still manually switch the search to focus on just a specific notebook or space.
Sharper suggestion logic
- Smarter and faster suggestions while typing. As you type in the search modal, suggestions appear faster than ever—not just notes, but also notebooks, stacks, spaces, and tags.
- Priority for title matches. We give higher priority to note, notebook, stack, space, and tag suggestions with titles that match your search query. Need more? Simply scroll to see additional notes with matching content. Still looking? Press Enter to run a full search and manage results directly from the note list.
Improved search results
- Unlimited results. We’ve removed the cap that previously limited search results to 128. Now, your search returns all relevant results each time.
- Targeted in-note results. When opening a note from your search results, you’ll now land directly on the first matching term, highlighted so you can locate it more easily.
- More reliable Search and Find in note results. We’ve enhanced consistency and precision across search and in-note highlighting, so you can locate what you need with confidence
Released June 2025.
🤝 Collaboration
Over the past six months, we’ve invested heavily in making Evernote a more collaborative workspace for individuals and teams alike with new features and small tweaks designed to make collaborating in Evernote more powerful, intuitive, and secure.
Shareable workspaces. Released February 2025.
In late 2024, we made Spaces (formerly a Teams-only feature) available for everyone. This powerful layer for organization and collaboration tool was initially released in beta, and over time we’ve added more functionality. One of our first changes was to make it possible to share your personal spaces with other individual Evernote users. Just click “Share,” add the person, set their permissions, and go!
Improved sharing UX. Released February 2025.
- Redesigned sharing modal. We’ve revamped the sharing modal to make it simpler and clearer to manage access permissions.
- Unlimited simultaneous viewers on public notes. Anyone with the link can view it without restrictions—perfect for publishing content for a large audience.
- Lite sharing flow. When a note link is opened outside the app, it will now consistently open in the Lite Note Editor, making it easily accessible for non-logged in users (note permissions permitting). Users then have the option to open the note in the full app and save public notes directly to their account.
- Improved social sharing options. We’ve added social sharing buttons to the Lite Note Editor, making it easy to copy the link, email it, or share it via WhatsApp, Facebook, or X.
In-line comments. Released March 2025.
Use in-line comments to flag specific words, phrases, or entire sections of your text to your collaborators. This way, you can leave feedback, ask questions, raise issues, or highlight ideas without ever leaving Evernote. The note owner receives email notifications for each new comment; instead new replies to existing comments trigger a notification to the note owner and anyone else in the thread. But don’t worry, you won’t return to a spammed inbox: we rate limit emails to once per hour per note, or up to three per hour for all notes.
Note access requests. Released May 2025.
If you receive a note link but don’t have permission to view the content, you can now ask the note owner for access directly via Evernote. You’ll be alerted as soon as access is granted—from there, you can jump back in via the original link or find the content in the 'Shared with me' section.
🤖 AI tools
Evernote’s AI tools are focused on saving you time and simplifying your work. Here’s how we’ve expanded Evernote’s AI capabilities in the past six months:
Higher limits for AI Transcribe & AI Edit. Released April-May 2025.
You can now use AI Transcribe for audio, video, and image files that are up to 1 hour in length or 100MB in size—ideal for converting long meetings, lectures, podcasts, or really high-def images into editable and searchable text. Plus, we doubled the character limit for AI Edit, so you can now apply improvements to longer notes.
Two new AI (re)writing tools to improve your content:
- (In-app) Use the new AI Edit “Write As” function to turn your text into an email or social media post. Released February 2025.
- (Web tool) Leverage AI Rewrite to reword your text—you can even choose to “humanize” the content for a more authentic result. Released March 2025.
Two new AI transcription web tools to simplify how you turn audio into text, and vice versa:
- With Evernote Text-to-Voice, you can turn your text into natural, easy-to-listen-to audio, choosing from a variety of voices and even setting the right tone. Released June 2025.
- With Evernote Meeting Note-taker, you can easily capture audio and video from your computer’s microphone or browser tab. From there, we automatically generate a transcript, complete with speaker recognition. Released June 2025.
🎨 Customization
Evernote should feel like your workspace, not someone else’s. That’s why, in addition to default fonts and template customization, we’ve rolled out several other new ways to customize your account exactly the way you like it.
- You can now set a custom thumbnail for any note—just right-click on an image or PDF and choose “Set as note thumbnail.”
- Evernote remembers your custom sidebar and navbar preferences across your devices for a consistent experience on Desktop, Mobile, and Web.
- Now you can fully personalize your daily notes: Edit the default templates, choose where your notes get saved, or even make your own custom daily note from scratch.
- You can now re-access the Mobile Widgets page from the More menu in the navbar.
- Not a fan of / or @ menu shortcuts? No problem—you can now disable them in Settings. For adding links and formatting manually, just use the Insert menu and the Editing toolbar instead.
Released January-March 2025.
⚡️ Speed & performance
We’ve been busy behind the scenes to make your Evernote experience faster than ever before. Here are just some ways Evernote’s performance has improved over the past six months:
[Desktop & Mobile] Attachments and tags sync.
We rebuilt the engine that handles how attachment and tags sync in Evernote, drastically increasing the speed with which they sync in a variety of circumstances:
- Up to 2x faster attachment sync for shared notes, plus fewer broken previews in the editor
- Up to 10x faster attachment sync in large accounts with big notebooks
- Up to 300x faster tags sync in large accounts with tags used within many notes
[Mobile] Note loading and opening.
We’ve reduced wait times when opening or creating a note on mobile:
- On iOS, 96.5% of users load the editor in under 1 second (up from 76%), while on Android 97% of users load the editor in under 2 seconds (up from 69%).
- We also made the process of opening and creating notes in Android faster for a much larger portion of the user base (+23% and +15% respectively!).
[Desktop] Notebook list loading time.
Your notebook list now loads up to 2x faster and uses 50% fewer CPUs.
Released February-April 2025.
What’s next in 2025?
We don’t plan to slow down any time soon! In the second half of the year we plan to release even more powerful AI features, additional search improvements, lots of Mobile updates, and much more.

Image-to-text in action: Create a family recipe archive
Picture this: You’ve inherited your family’s beloved—but chaotic—recipe collection. Scribbled across napkins, envelopes, and index cards, it holds decades of culinary wisdom, from grandma’s secret sauce to your aunt’s award-winning pecan pie. Digitizing this collection is the best way to preserve it for generations to come…that’s where AI Transcribe comes in!
Step 1: Upload and transcribe
Start by scanning the pages with your home scanner or phone and uploading them to the Evernote app. From there, click the ‘Transcribe’ button to extract text from images—handwritten or typed—and convert them into digital notes. The transcribed recipes (and original images) are stored securely in your Evernote account and can be easily searched, edited, and referenced at any time.
Step 2: Clean up with AI
To polish up your recipe book, use Evernote's built-in AI Edit feature—it can quickly summarize wordy baking instructions, correct typos, and fix grammatical errors.
Step 3: Add new content on the fly
Ready to carry on the legacy by adding your own recipes throughout the years? It’s as easy as snapping a quick photo. AI Transcribe picks up the handwriting, converts the image to text, and slots it neatly into your organized recipe archive.
Now, your entire collection is easily searchable and available anytime, anywhere.
Why choose AI Transcribe?
Evernote's AI Transcribe isn't just a photo to text converter. It's a powerful tool designed to make your handwritten content searchable, organized, and preserved for generations.
Along with handwriting recognition, AI Transcribe offers strong audio-to-text and video-to-text transcription capabilities. It also integrates seamlessly with the Evernote ecosystem, pairing well with tools like AI Edit (so you can quickly summarize transcripts), as well as both traditional and AI-Powered Search (to help you surface exactly what you need with simple natural-language searches).
