HP Protect and Trace API Now Available on the WXP Developer Portal

HP Workforce Experience Platform expands its Protect and Trace integration with new APIs in the WXP Developer Portal, letting teams combine device security and fleet management data to automate workflows, improve compliance, and respond faster to risks.

Build smarter, more secure workflows by using HP Protect and Trace and WXP APIs in concert to integrate security and device fleet management routines.

When it comes to IT operations and delivering a smooth employee experience, security is a key part of the overall strategy. It’s hard for IT teams, who bear a heavy responsibility to the organization in the face of increasing technical complexity and more sophisticated threats, to get the balance right.

It gets harder when you have multiple platforms that don’t coordinate well, which is why flexibility and interoperability have been priorities for HP in developing the Workforce Experience Platform (WXP).1 That said, we know customers have complex workflows and specific needs, and this is where our Developer Portal comes into play, providing APIs to enable integrations and customizations that expand the platform’s capabilities.

HP Protect and Trace allows you to find, lock, and erase a PC, anywhere in the world. For HP devices also equipped with Wolf Connect, this protection works even when the device is disconnected and powered down. Already manageable from within the WXP dashboard, the integration of Protect and Trace with WXP has recently been expanded and APIs for Protect and Trace are now available in the WXP Developer Portal.

This means developers, partners, and IT teams with development talent can bring Protect and Trace data directly into WXP applications and use both sets of APIs together to automate, orchestrate, and integrate security and IT management workflows. Connecting device protection with broader IT processes can help organizations streamline compliance and respond more quickly to risks.

Improve Security Compliance, Resilience, and Agility

If you’re currently using HP Protect and Trace in your organization, the integration of the Protect and Trace API into WXP enables you to streamline device lifecycle management, automate routine security actions, and tailor device protection to fit organizational policies, in coordination with other WXP data and workflows. You get better visibility, the ability to respond more quickly to threats or lost devices, and tighter integration with other WXP modules or in-house solutions, so you can spend less time switching between platforms in your day-to-day routines.

Developers and integrated services vendors (ISVs) can integrate Protect and Trace with other platforms or combine Protect and Trace and WXP APIs to offer custom solutions for clients. Whether you’re building dashboards, analytics tools, asset management interfaces, or custom alerting systems, you can now combine real-time Protect and Trace signals and security actions with WXP’s fleet analytics, remediations, and insights, offering deeper, more cohesive experiences. The API provides robust endpoints, secure authentication, and seamless interoperability.

    Combine Data for Integrated Workflows

The integration of Protect and Trace and WXP data allows you to develop workflows, apps, and automations where data from both platforms flows together, in dashboards, scripts, or business processes, with minimal friction. Protect and Trace APIs offer detailed device inventory, policy management, and security actions to complement WXP’s monitoring, remediation, and analytics APIs. Security remains paramount: all interactions with the API require secure authentication and are encrypted end-to-end.

Here are some examples of how the integrated Protect and Trace and WXP APIs might be useful:

    • Automated Device On/Offboarding — Integrate with HR or ITSM systems for seamless asset assignment and recall
    • Real-time Security Alerts — Push Protect and Trace security incident data to SIEM or ticketing platforms for rapid response
    • Dynamic Policy Enforcement — Adjust device policies based on location, user role, or contextual risk
    • Fleet Compliance Reporting — Integrate device status and compliance data into business analytics dashboards
    • Custom User Portals — Build organization-specific portals for end users or regional admins
    • Asset Management Automation — Automate location tracking and updating of CMDB. Open tickets when devices are unresponsive.
    • Geo-Fencing — Alert when PCs are moved outside of authorized locations, while maintaining privacy and audit controls.

Join the Next Generation of Endpoint Protection

The full integration of the HP Protect and Trace API into WXP marks a new chapter in secure, data-driven device management, one where control, insight, and automation seamlessly span both platforms.

The HP WXP Developer Portal provides comprehensive API documentation, self-service registration, as well as sample workflows and integration tutorials. Explore hands-on scenarios that illustrate how to combine device security, status, remediation and reporting from both Protect and Trace and WXP modules.

HP Workforce Experience Platform by HP

    Simplify Printer Management with WXP

HP Workforce Experience Platform adds Print Management to streamline printer monitoring, configuration, security, and support alongside PCs and other devices. It brings cloud-based fleet visibility, remote onboarding, policy control, firmware scheduling, and supply monitoring to reduce IT overhead.

WXP Print Management Streamlines Monitoring, Configuration, and Support for Printers, Integrated with the Rest of Your Device Fleet to Save Time and Reduce Administrative Overhead

Printer management is complex and time-consuming. Diverse and aging devices, tricky security and network requirements, and the potential to disrupt critical operational workflows all make printers a challenge for stretched IT teams. And let’s be honest, it’s a thankless job. If you ask an average CIO about strategic priorities, managing printers is unlikely to make the list.

Meanwhile, as more of the IT stack shifts to cloud-based management and zero-trust security frameworks, printers are increasingly out of step. Dependent on legacy tools and on-premises infrastructure, they’re harder to manage and more expensive to secure to modern standards, leaving many printers out of compliance and exposing organizations to an elevated risk of data theft.

It’s just the type of challenge the HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP) is designed to address. Already implemented by organizations worldwide for PC and collaboration technology management, WXP’s value in being able to manage a full device fleet from a single pane of glass can’t be overstated. It saves time, reduces errors, improves your ability to respond quickly, and frees up time from routine IT tasks for more strategic initiatives that can help your organization differentiate itself and improve the bottom line.

One Platform to Rule Them All

Now, that single-pane-of-glass management includes your printers. WXP Print Management provides the ability to monitor, manage, secure, and update printers alongside your PCs and other equipment without switching platforms, reducing administrative time while allowing you to prioritize maintenance needs with a full view of your digital ecosystem. IT teams gain visibility and efficient, cloud-based remote management of printer configuration, security, and support, with the ability to proactively address issues, speed up response times, and lower operational costs.

The platform supports fully cloud-connected or hybrid environments. This provides you with a unified printer fleet monitoring and management solution that serves your current organizational needs and will continue to support you as those evolve, including as you transition to zero-trust policies for stronger security. Monitoring support is available for any printer connected via WebJetAdmin (WJA), whether from HP or another manufacturer.

Set It and Don’t Sweat It

WXP Print Management makes configuration and compliance easier than ever. Remote onboarding, policy configuration, and remediation all help to save time and money by reducing site visits (along with their associated travel requirements, scheduling hassles, expenses, and operational delays).

Onboard HP FutureSmart 5 compatible printers using direct cloud connection, or any printer connected to WebJetAdmin and on-premise servers. Group printers using your custom rules for consistent application of policies, allowing you to apply settings based on location, department, or other parameters to provide tailored security and compliance for existing and newly added printers.

WXP Print Management also simplifies firmware updates and changes to settings, with a convenient scheduler so the process can be executed when employees are not in the office and will not be disrupted. If service requires a factory reset, printers can be remediated remotely with policies restored to bring them back into compliance quickly.

Know What’s Down Before It Slows Work Down

WXP Print Management’s monitoring dashboard provides an invaluable tool for busy IT teams, making it easy to monitor large fleets of printers across distributed environments, proactively identifying offline or non-compliant devices for quick remediation. The platform provides more than just status updates. It offers single-click access to filtered lists of problematic printers to help you get them back online quickly. By catching issues early, you can prevent printer downtime that interrupts workflows and drives avoidable support tickets.

Sometimes preventing downtime is as simple as ensuring the toner doesn’t run out. WXP Print Management has you covered there too, monitoring supply thresholds so you can see when refills are required and ensure the printer is always ready to print.

We understand that providing your workforce with the best tech experience possible can sometimes feel like you’re orchestrating a circus. With WXP, we’re aiming to reduce the number of hoops you have to jump through to do so, and adding Print Management to the platform is a key step along the way. For a more detailed walkthrough of the platform’s print capabilities, check out the interactive demos below.

To access and manage these features, customers must have active HP Anyware licenses, which enable secure, high-performance remote desktop experiences.

    Desktop Name in Client

The HP Anyware client now displays the name of the remote desktop—enabling users to easily identify which remote desktop they are connecting to.* This is especially helpful for users with access to multiple remote desktops.

    Steps to access:

Enable this feature in the HP Anyware client using the configuration, as it is turned off by default. Full details can be found in the Administrators’ Guide under Session Host Name Display.

*Note: Active HP Anyware license required.

HP Workforce Experience Platform by HP

Smart Security Starts Here: WXP with HP Protect and Trace

HP Workforce Experience Platform adds HP Protect and Trace support so IT can locate, lock, and erase missing PCs directly from the WXP dashboard. It also shows Protect and Trace licenses and device status in WXP, with Wolf Connect extending protection even offline.

Locate, Lock, and Erase Lost PCs Quickly from Within WXP, Mitigating the Risk of Unauthorized Access and Data Loss

If you asked the average person how they think identity theft and data breaches happen, they’d likely paint a scenario involving remote hackers penetrating a network with passwords harvested from the dark web. But we often overlook the more basic ways in which bad actors gain access to networks and data.

According to a 2023 report from Forrester (quoted in Security Week ), 17% of data breaches are the result of device theft or loss. While replacing a device may be straightforward, dealing with the aftermath of that device being used to access an organization’s proprietary information is far more difficult and can be exponentially more expensive. In the event of a device loss or theft, you need to respond quickly, and logging into a separate device management platform is a waste of valuable time.

HP Protect and Trace adds security to your device fleet, enabling you to find, lock and erase a PC that has been reported missing. HP Workforce Experience Platform customers with Protect and Trace enabled devices can view and manage those devices right from the WXP dashboard.

Wolf Connect provides an additional layer of protection. HP Protect and Trace with Wolf Connect enables IT to manage and protect remote PCs, even when disconnected from the Internet or powered down. Available with select HP PCs at time of order, Wolf Connect uses cellular technology that provides global coverage through a unique HP service, allowing IT to find, lock and erase PCs worldwide.

React Quickly to Prevent Data Breach

Protect and Trace functions are available in the same UI, share the same device repository, and are tightly integrated with WXP functions. This consolidation of endpoint management and security streamlines your workflow by avoiding console switching, enabling a quicker response to device loss or theft.

IT can take immediate action to protect the device and data, reducing the risk of sensitive data loss. From the WXP device details view, you can see the last known location of the affected PC and issue Lock and Erase commands. The Lock command executes below the BIOS, securing sensitive data and preventing the PC from being re-imaged. This also helps with auditing and compliance, since control objectives can be met as efficiently and consistently as possible.

Manage Protect and Trace Licenses with WXP

HP Protect and Trace and HP Protect and Trace with Wolf Connect plans are visible in WXP under Account details in the Licenses tab. When Protect and Trace plans are added to your WXP tenant and assigned to your devices, you will see an additional column in your devices view titled “HP Wolf Protect and Trace” and device status will include Protect and Trace related values.

Step Up Your Security with WXP Plus Protect and Trace

A digital employee experience (DEX) platform without a solution for loss or theft leaves organizations vulnerable to network and data breaches. Save valuable time and resources by integrating loss management within WXP, so you can work from the same platform when the pressure is on to mitigate security risks as quickly as possible. Anyware Cloud Gateways

Anyware Cloud Gateways are HP-hosted gateways designed to enable fast and secure communication between clients and cloud-hosted apps and services. They simplify the connection process by removing the need for custom connectors and on-premises setups. Instead of direct communication, both clients and hosts connect to the Gateway exclusively through outbound traffic.

This system significantly reduces common remoting challenges such as complex network configurations, firewall changes, client-side infrastructure management, and potential malware threats. Additionally, Anyware Cloud Gateways streamline governance, security, and change control processes, making it much faster and easier to provide users with secure access to their remote or virtual desktops.

    Employee Engagement and Sentiment

    Improved Transparency for Sentiment Scores*

Understanding employee sentiment should be straightforward. WXP now provides greater transparency into how Sentiment Scores are calculated in Sentiment Pulse. Sentiment Scores only populate after receiving a statistically significant number of responses. You’ll see exactly how many responses are needed for a score to populate. This threshold is calculated based on the number of devices your organization has enrolled in WXP, and ensures your Sentiment Score reflects meaningful feedback.

    Steps to access:

    1. On the WXP homepage, hover over the Sentiment Score in the Experience Score Widget.

*Note: Only applicable to Workforce Experience Platform Pro and Elite plans.

    DEX Sub-score Weight Customization

    4. Preview the updated score in the right-side panel.
    5. Click Save to apply changes.

HP Workforce Experience Platform by HP

Better Together: Build Custom Integrations to Maximize the Value of Your Data

HP Workforce Experience Platform launches a Developer Portal to help reduce data silos and make WXP data easier to integrate across enterprise apps. The portal adds APIs, code samples, and a query language to support custom workflows, analysis, and troubleshooting.

No one needs more data sequestered in a corner to be forgotten. Data silos hurt productivity, negatively impact decision-making, and frustrate employees, who spend hours each week searching for the information they need or manually copying and pasting it from one place to another.

This is something we’ve thought a lot about in building the HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP). To ensure your employees always have the data they need, HP has launched a Developer Portal, designed to mitigate the problem of data silos. This portal provides an opportunity to use HP APIs to integrate WXP with other enterprise-class platforms.

Build Custom Integrations That Work for You

Collecting information is a critical step in strategic decision making, but it’s only the starting point. Integrating WXP data with other business applications can provide a more comprehensive view of your operations, enabling better decision-making and more efficient processes.

HP offers ready-made WXP software integrations within the platform, which connect with some of the largest and most commonly used enterprise applications. However, we recognize that you may need something tailored to your organization’s unique workflows. The newly launched WXP Developer Portal provides resources and support to build custom integrations that work the way you need them to with the applications your team uses frequently.

    Developer Resources: Learning and Tools

The WXP Developer Portal provides APIs, code samples, and a powerful query language for commonly used data collected by the platform.

The portal offers a solid base of resources to help you get started, including APIs, code samples, and a powerful query language. These resources are designed to support developers in building integrations that extract WXP data, such as device insights or employee engagement, into workflows or analysis in other applications.

For example, an IT admin may want to know about all devices with specific BIOS information. A developer can run a query to WXP to retrieve a list of all devices with their BIOS information, even specifying other parameters, such as how many of your devices have a particular BIOS version, and pull that information into another application for analysis, troubleshooting, or escalation for remediation.

    Getting Started: Accessing WXP APIs

WXP customers can access the developer portal and begin exploring the available resources. Contact us for more details about being designated as a developer, the first step to using our APIs.

Deploy WXP, use our powerful APIs to make your workflows more efficient, and if there are other APIs you need, talk to us about getting those added to our roadmap. We are planning to expand access to this portal, build a developer ecosystem, and foster a broader, flourishing community of developers in the future. By leveraging the power of WXP and its seamless data integration capabilities, you can empower your company to achieve greater productivity and efficiency.

Visit our Developer Portal here (in Europe, here).

HP Workforce Experience Platform by HP

HP Workforce Experience Platform Begins Global Rollout

HP Workforce Experience Platform launches its global rollout and expands its AI-powered digital employee experience tools. The update highlights sentiment analysis, Fleet Explorer, Vyopta integration, HP Anyware visibility, and Wolf Connect support to help IT reduce friction and manage fleets more proactively.

Power up workforce productivity with WXP—the platform that reduces digital friction to enhance employee experiences.

We’re excited to announce that the global rollout of HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP) has begun. Building on the success of last year’s early access program, WXP has already grown to 781,000+ connected devices, leveraging intelligence from HP’s vast global data ecosystem. Our AI models learn from telemetry data across 24 million endpoints, processing 700GB of new data daily into our 4-petabyte intelligence engine.

Every month, HP’s software and services remediate over 11 million IT issues – keeping employees productive and IT teams focused on strategic initiatives. This intelligence advantage allows WXP to deliver proactive solutions that help prevent disruptions before they impact productivity.

In today's IT landscape, simply selling devices is insufficient; we need a unified approach that encompasses hardware and software to deliver the experience that employees expect. HP is evolving beyond being just a hardware company. We are shaping the future of work, which requires us to be both a hardware and software company. WXP serves the hardware, not the other way around. Our growing presence in the DEX space significantly contributes to the growth of our core hardware business.

WXP Moves HP from Device-Centric Support to Employee-Centric Digital Employee Experience

With WXP, HP is redefining how organizations manage and optimize the end-to-end workforce experience, putting us at the forefront of the Digital Employee Experience (DEX) space. It reflects our shift from being a trusted device provider to a SaaS innovator—a critical step in HP’s transformation journey into the Future of Work.

We’re on the cusp of an AI revolution that promises to vastly accelerate productivity, but for this vision to become a reality, we need to first fix what’s broken. Employees are struggling with an explosion of new devices and services, and IT teams can’t keep up. Two-thirds of employees report experiencing friction when using digital technologies (Gartner, Hype Cycle for Hybrid Work), and only half say they feel fully supported by their IT service desk, (Forrester, The State Of The Service Desk). Employees and IT teams alike are burned out.

For customers, this platform simplifies everything," said Masud. "Instead of stitching together tools from different vendors, they get a single platform with a unified view across their entire fleet—PCs, printers, collaboration devices, virtual desktops, and apps like Zoom and Teams. No matter where the tech comes from, HP supports it all.

Employees perform at their best when technology disappears into the background. This only happens when IT has the right tools to manage the complexity of the new digital ecosystem. By addressing technology issues proactively, IT can reduce friction, improve security, and better serve the company by making employees productive and fulfilled again.

WXP is designed to address technology issues proactively by providing IT with powerful insights that help empower employees to thrive at the intersection of work and life. It draws on billions of data points to intelligently anticipate problems, removing friction for employees and reducing the never-ending firehose of IT requests.

Notable Enhancements for a Personalized, Seamless Experience

Over the past several months, HP has continued to drive the evolution of WXP with powerful capabilities that automate tasks and make it more natural and intuitive to manage the employee experience. Notable enhancements include:

    • AI Sentiment Analysis: Now includes AI capabilities to assess and improve employee experience by analyzing sentiment data. The tool can analyze and provide summaries of sentiment based on thousands of free text survey responses from employees, uncovering recurring themes for IT to prioritize. So, if employee sentiment starts to drop, IT managers can spot the trend quickly and address the issue proactively.
    • Fleet Explorer: This new AI-powered natural language processing (NLP) tool lets users query fleet data instantly for insights. Instead of spending hours or days digging through reports, IT managers can ask a question and get quick answers to critical questions. For example, high memory utilization often leads to poor PC performance. So, an IT manager could start by asking, “which devices experienced the most memory over-utilization in the past 30 days?” And then based on the results, remediate the problem before it becomes an issue for employees.
    • Vyopta Integration: HP and Vyopta customers can now check on the overall health of their organization’s collaboration environment (video and telephone endpoints as well as collaboration software) in WXP. This integration delivers users valuable insights into collaboration infrastructure usage, adoption and performance to inform strategic decisions, and user satisfaction.
    • HP has created pre-built scripts, alerts and dashboards that help organizations monitor fleets, automate workflows, and deliver strategic insights to optimize performance and improve IT efficiency.
    • Digital Workspaces powered by HP Anyware: Extend fleet visibility to HP Anyware remote or virtual desktops for a full view of your hybrid workforce from within WXP. Enabling Channel Partners to Diversify and Transition to Services-Centric Businesses

Digitization and workflow automation represent key growth areas for partners. WXP makes the start-up investment for partners to get into the Digital Employee Experience (DEX) space easy. With WXP, HP partners can diversify into new businesses and acquire new customers, moving to a contractual, services-centric business model.

Once partners secure their WXP Sell and Manage Certification, they will get access to a partner view that includes a business management dedicated dashboard section, brand and communication customization, reporting and trends, and multi-tenancy navigation. With multi-tenancy navigation, partners can select a customer and drill down into the customer view to perform specific actions such as running remediations, managing devices, and sending pulse surveys. For remediations, partners can choose to use the HP script gallery for pre-built scripts or create their own. Visit our partner page to get started.
