Backlog 2.0 (Beta)
Backlog 2.0 brings a dedicated backlog page with a roomy list view that replaces the old kanban card layout. Tasks can be prioritized with time buckets and organized in folders for easy grooming. Enable the Backlog 2.0 beta from settings to try the new features and share feedback.
Backlog 2.0
There is now a dedicated page for organizing the tasks in your backlog.
The new backlog page is our first time deviating from the kanban card style view. We think that a list view is better than a card view when you've got a ton of tasks to scroll through.
You can still view the backlog in the more compact card view in the right panel, but when you want to do some proper backlog grooming, or brain dumping, the dedicated backlog view should feel much roomier.Prioritizing tasks using time buckets
The new backlog is structured into time buckets:
- Someday in the next week or two
- Someday in the next month
- Someday in the next quarter
- Someday in the next year
- Someday
- Never
This structure gives a flexible but systematic way to differentiate which tasks in your backlog are worth prioritizing sooner rather than later.
Organizing tasks using folders
You can create folders in your backlog if you've got too many to keep in a single list. You can have folders for projects, life areas, or whatever categories you like to group your backlogged tasks in.
Folders are just for the backlog. Once a task gets scheduled to a particular day, the folder designation will be hidden.Try it for yourself
You can enable the Backlog 2.0 beta from your settings page.
Original source Report a problem
Don't let the beta tag scare you - the new backlog should feel like it has all the fundamentals working. There are still some missing pieces that tie the backlog gracefully into the rest of the app (e.g. the planning rituals) that merit this still be treated as beta.
We'd love your feedback once you give it a try. - Dec 12, 2025

Slack message to task: automatic titles, time and channel prediction
Slack: Turn a Slack message into a task
- A time estimate
- Pick a folder and time horizon if moving it to the backlog (for Backlog 2.0 users)
- Sunsama is also now smart about pre-filling an actionable title name (based on message content) and pre-filling the time estimate and channel.

Sunsama check-in
Sunsama confirms active development with several big updates nearing release. The mobile app gets a revamped backlog in beta, Sunny AI voice assistant in beta, and Timeboxing 2.0, plus various small improvements. Expect emails and changelog updates as these features roll out.
Hi everyone, I've been seeing more messages lately asking what's going on with Sunsama and why we haven't updated this changelog in a few months. The short answer is that we're still hard at work and close to shipping some exciting updates, and simply haven't been very vocal here in the changelog.
This past summer our small team of engineers all fell deep into working on respective big projects, and few of us took holidays and parental leave. It meant there weren't as many smaller improvements/features/fixes to report on and publish every week, and we were also stretched a bit thin. In other words, everyone was heads down on long-term projects with little public facing results to show week over week. As a result, I made the decision to pause the weekly newsletter which has since resumed (where we often announce big and small updates) and also to stop posting this weekly changelog.
But rest assured that we've been working hard on the projects we announced in early 2025, and all of those are finished or very close to finished. In the next few weeks, we'll send out emails about each big feature that's rolling out, but in summary we have or are close to rolling out:
- totally restructured mobile app
- beta version of a brand new backlog (actually available to try now! Go to Settings > Beta)
- in-app AI voice assistant in beta ("Sunny")
- timeboxing 2.0 features
- various other small improvements and new integrations
We're back at full strength these days, and we're going to be better about updating you all here in this changelog, in our email newsletters, and in our Slack community about what we're working on more regularly! It was just sort of a unique stretch for a few months where there wasn't much to "announce" except that we were working on ongoing projects, and I apologize for the silence these last few months.
If you want to chat further or want more specific details about anything, just reach out in support.

Visualize recurring tasks at a set time on your calendar via rigid projections
New rigid scheduling boosts recurring tasks with approximate start times by visualizing their projections on your calendar and prioritizing them over regular projections. You can enable or adjust by default or per task series in timeboxing settings, with an in-depth walkthrough available.
Rigid scheduling and task projections
If you've enabled task projections, you'll notice that your recurring tasks with an approximate start time are now automatically visualized at this time on your calendar.
This is made possible via a new recurring task setting called rigid scheduling.- How are rigid task projections different than regular task projections?
- Rigid projections are not scheduled based on their order in your task list. They are scheduled based on their approximate start time.
- Rigid projections take priority over regular task projections.
- Rigid projections have a '~' next to their start time on the task card.
- Only recurring tasks with approximate start times can be set to rigid.
What if I don't want my recurring tasks to be so rigid?
By default, all recurring tasks with an estimated start time will have rigid scheduling enabled. You can adjust the default setting for all recurring tasks from your timeboxing settings page:
You can also adjust it on a per task series basis by editing the start time:For a more in-depth guide, watch the walkthrough:

Google Tasks integration
Google Tasks integration is live, letting you browse and import tasks from Gmail or Calendar into Sunsama. View notes and due dates, filter and sort during import, and complete syncing back to Google.
One of our most requested integrations is now live: Google Tasks
Browse and import Google Tasks
Whether you have Google tasks created via Gmail, Google Calendar, or elsewhere, and whether you have multiple lists or multiple accounts, you can browse and import all of your Google Tasks in Sunsama.
View your Google Task's notes and due date, and filter, sort, search your Google Tasks to import into Sunsama seamlessly.
Due to limits with Google's API, we're unable to show certain properties on a task, such as due time or star.
Completion Sync
Rest easy knowing that completing an imported Google Task in Sunsama will mark it complete back in Sunsama.
Help documentation
For more information about the integration, refer to this guide in our help center or reach out to us in support chat.

Sunsama Calendar
Sunsama adds a private Sunsama backed calendar that sits separate from Google or Outlook, letting you visualize tasks on a personal calendar without cluttering your main calendars. It supports basic events with limits and lets you set default calendars for tasks and events.
Everyone now has their own, private, Sunsama-backed calendar.
This calendar is independent of your existing Google/Microsoft/Apple calendars.
Visualize your tasks on your calendar without polluting your primary Google/Microsoft/Apple calendar
You can create 'regular' calendar events (with some limitations), and schedule your Sunsama tasks to your Sunsama calendar.
The events you create on this calendar are private. They are only visible to you from within your Sunsama workspace.
The primary intent of this calendar is to give you a place to visualize your tasks on your calendar without polluting your regular Google/Outlook/Apple calendar.Limits of the Sunsama calendar
Your Sunsama-backed calendar is not intended to be used as a full calendar replacement.
You can't:- Share your Sunsama calendar outside of Sunsama (e.g. with your Google/Microsoft/Apple calendars)
- Invite other people to events on your Sunsama calendar
- Create recurring events on your Sunsama calendar
For full calendaring functionality, you can connect your other existing calendars.
Choosing your default calendar
You can choose which calendar to use as the default when scheduling your tasks, and, separately, which calendar to use as the default when scheduling your calendar events, from your calendar settings page.
We recommend making your Sunsama calendar your default for scheduling tasks, and your primary Google/Microsoft/Apple calendar your default for scheduling events.
When you create regular calendar events, you'll have the option to change the calendar to schedule the event to.
