We're excited to introduce a new layer of security controls for the Box MCP Server. Box admins can now control which Box MCP Server tools each unpublished platform app is allowed to use. For every app—regardless of authentication method—admins can apply the organization-wide MCP policy or create a custom set of permitted tools specifically for that app. This gives organizations the same granular governance for their internal, custom-built apps that was previously available only for published integrations.

Every platform app listed in Admin Console > Platform > Platform Apps now includes its own Box MCP Server tab. From there, admins can define exactly which tools that specific app is allowed to use, independently of the organization-wide global controls.

To find it: go to Admin Console > Platform > Platform Apps, locate the app by name, click to open it, and select the Box MCP Server tab.

Admins can now:

• Choose between Global and Custom configuration for each unpublished platform app. Global inherits the organization's global MCP settings; Custom lets you define a set of tools scoped to that app alone.
• Enable or disable individual tools within a Custom configuration, grouped by category — such as Files and Folders, Search, or Collaboration.
• Grant a trusted internal app broader or different access than the global default without affecting any other app.
• Revert to the organization's global policy at any time by switching from Custom back to Global.

Why it matters

Because unpublished apps are typically internal or custom-built and haven’t undergone Box’s app-publishing review, admins need more granular control over what each app can access. These controls help enforce least-privilege access by ensuring each app can call only the tools it genuinely needs. They also give admins one consistent way to govern both published and unpublished MCP-connected apps across their organization.

Every department runs on content. Legal manages contracts, HR handles employee records, and marketing organizes creative assets. But while the work of each line of business needs to happen inside of documents, the process of managing the documents often happens all over the place.

Information gets copied into spreadsheets. Status updates live in Slack. Approvals move through email. Teams jump between file storage, workflow tools, databases, and custom apps just to move a document from one step to the next. When work is managed across all these external apps, workflows quickly become inefficient and hard to manage.

Introducing Box Agent in Apps

Today, we’re announcing Box Agent in Apps, a deep agent capability built directly into the Box experience that handles the work that’s too complex, multi-layered, and document-intensive for any single search or automated rule.

Box Agent is neither a chatbot nor a search bar. It’s a multi-step, autonomous reasoning agent that breaks your goal into subtasks, searches across your content, reads documents, extracts what matters, reasons across sources, and delivers a high-quality, traceable answer without you opening a single file.

When you’re working in Box Apps and face a task that spans dozens of documents or requires cross-referencing, Box Agent can step in. AI does the investigation and provides an answer without a human spending hours sifting through content.

This is the difference between a content platform that stores your work and one that actively supports and scales it.

Legal scenario: New laws, existing contracts

Here’s a scenario that can happen within legal and compliance teams: A new law passes that changes data-sharing rules for employee benefits administration. You think this new regulation might impact your contract with your company's benefits provider.

Your benefits provider contract is buried somewhere in Box, alongside dozens of other vendor agreements, service arrangements, and compliance documents. You know the contract exists. You're just not sure exactly what it says about data sharing or whether it needs to be updated.

Answering that question manually means tracking down the right document, reading through dense legal language, and making a judgment call about whether the specific clauses in your agreement are affected by the new rule. And if your legal team needs to check other vendor contracts for similar exposure, that process multiplies quickly, turning a single compliance question into days of work, with real risk that something gets missed.

Here’s how Box Agent in Apps handles it:

1. Step 1 — You describe the task: Working inside Box Apps, you prompt Box Agent with the specifics of your situation and the text of the new law: "[Name law] just passed, and it affects employee benefits administration. [Text of law.] Find our benefits provider contract and tell me whether we should consider any changes to our contract in order to comply."
2. Step 2 — Box Agent understands the goal: The agent interprets the intent of your request, not just the keywords. It determines what kind of task this is (a targeted compliance review of a specific vendor agreement), what information is needed (contract clauses related to data sharing, data handling obligations, and employee benefits), and how to approach the workflow.
3. Step 3 — Box Agent searches and reads your content: It searches your Box App content for the benefits provider contract, retrieves the document, and reads through it, extracting the specific clauses that relate to data sharing, data handling obligations, and compliance requirements. If similar language appears in other vendor agreements, it surfaces those too, so nothing gets missed.
4. Step 4 — It reasons across the contract and the new law: Box Agent doesn't just summarize the contract. It applies the requirements of the new regulation as a lens against the specific language in your agreement. It identifies which clauses conflict with the new requirements, which provisions are silent on the relevant obligations, and which parts of the contract are already compliant.
5. Step 5 — You get a clear, actionable answer: The output is a structured summary: the specific clauses in your benefits provider contract that need to be updated, the language that's problematic, and the provisions that are already in good shape. You also get “the proof” — direct links back to the source document so your legal team can verify every finding.

What would have taken hours of manual contract review now takes minutes. And because it all happens inside Box, where the contract lives, there's no data movement outside your Box environment and no new tool to configure.

This release focuses on bug fixes and improvements to enhance the integration, including:

Box for Salesforce

Box Sign

• Improved Box Sign status sync consistency.
• Enhanced the Box Sign webhook to automatically retry when the Box Sign API status is behind the triggering event.
• Fixed an issue causing failed updates to appear as delivered skipping retry.
• Fixed an issue where the Box Sign scheduled sync reprocessed already-completed sign requests due to a truncated signer email value, causing repeated sync failures.
• Fixed an issue where a contact's phone number was not auto-populated when requesting SMS authentication for a sign request.
• Added a Box Sign Sync section to the Box Sign Configuration page in Box Settings, with a link to Using Box Sign Sync in Salesforce to help admins configure it correctly to receive real-time updates from Box Sign.

Box Doc Gen

• Fixed an issue where the Custom Object for Contact Details did not resolve correctly in Box Doc Gen templates.
• Fixed an issue where uploading a template in the Doc Gen Template Manager failed to collaborate the creating user on the new template folder.
• Fixed an issue where Box Doc Gen failed due to fields not present in the Salesforce API version.
• Added support for using lookups in Box Doc Gen name tags.

General

• Fixed an issue where collaborations on linked folders were removed or not added for the users.
• Added support for automatic collaboration in Box UI Elements when a Salesforce record ID is provided as input.
  • Note: Auto-collaboration does not apply when a hardcoded file or folder ID is used.
• Improvements to validation messaging during Box for Salesforce setup.

A unified commenting experience

Feedback is critical to collaboration, but managing it shouldn’t be a project in itself. When reviewers leave page-level comments in one place, text-specific annotations in another, and additional feedback in chat, context gets lost and project owners waste time consolidating notes instead of acting on them.

In file previews and Box Notes, we’ve redesigned our commenting experience to give you a single, unified space for all feedback. Comments and annotations now live together in one pane, so everyone can see the full conversation in context. Here’s what’s new:

• Threaded conversations & @mentions: Teams can have structured discussions directly on the file, and use @mentions to instantly loop in the right collaborator without ever leaving the document
• Resolved comment threads: Once feedback has been addressed, mark the thread as “resolved” and it tucks neatly into a filter, keeping your active pane clutter-free while preserving the full history if you need to revisit it later
• Comment deletion controls: Authors have full control over their own comments (note that deleting a root comment will also remove its associated thread to keep conversations coherent)
• Adjustable pane width: For heavy review sessions, simply drag the divider to expand the comments pane and get a more comfortable split-screen view.

Version history at a glance

We introduced a new version review dropdown directly in the preview header. Now you can see recent versions at a glance, including who uploaded them, when, and the file size, and jump between them instantly without leaving the preview screen. No more opening a separate version history view first. This brings transparency to document iterations, so everyone moves forward confidently with the correct, most up-to-date file.

A more modern, collaborative video player

Reviewing video content has traditionally been a process that exists outside of Box. We’re introducing major updates to the video player in Box to streamline your media workflows:

• Refreshed player experience: Smoother navigation, enhanced animations, and more intuitive controls for playing, pausing, scrubbing, and adjusting playback settings — so you can focus on the content, not the controls
• Comments on the seek bar: Timestamped comments and annotations now appear directly on the seek bar so you can see exactly where feedback exists in the video and jump straight to that moment, making review workflows incredibly precise and contextual
• Frame guides: Toggle frame guides to preview how a video will look across various aspect ratios, including vertical, widescreen, square, cinematic, and mobile-first social formats; action-safe and title-safe lines ensure logos, text, and key visuals are perfectly framed before export

Flexibility to help you design more visually-stunning Box Hubs

Organizing and publishing engaging content across an organization just got easier. In Box Hubs, we’re giving Hub editors more flexibility to design polished, easy-to-navigate portals that look and feel like custom websites:

• Inline image blocks: Place images directly within a Box Hub. Upload from your computer, select from Box, paste from your clipboard, or drag and drop. Once added, you can crop and resize using preset aspect ratios (Square 1:1, Wide 16:9, Portrait 3:4) within responsive layouts that look great on any screen size. Viewers can also click any image to open it in a full-screen view.
• Top view tab navigation: In addition to the default left sidebar, Hub creators can now display pages as horizontal tabs at the top of the Hub for a familiar, intranet-like experience. Nested sub-pages appear in clean hover dropdowns, a “more” button handles overflow tabs automatically, and pages can be reordered, nested, or duplicated directly from the tab bar.

Stay productive on the go with Box Mobile

We recently added AI Home to Box Mobile, making it simpler to use your content stored in Box as a source for your questions and summaries. Instead of manually piecing together information or sifting through individual files to use AI, you get answers grounded in your organization’s actual business content, including the presentations, documents, and notes your team has already built.

And since work doesn’t stop when you step away from your desk, we’ve continued to pack the Box Mobile App with updates designed to keep you productive from anywhere:

• Box AI in search: Ask Box AI questions directly in the mobile search bar to instantly extract insights and answers from your files without needing to open them
• Quicker access to Box Notes and Box Hubs: The bottom navigation bar now has direct access to Box Notes and Box Hubs, making it easier to view your content
• Dedicated Notes search: Accessing and searching your Box Notes on mobile is now instantaneous, with a dedicated shortcut on the redesigned bottom navigation bar and a built-in search function within your Notes view
• Assign tasks in Box Mobile: Delegate work on the fly by assigning tasks directly within the mobile app, keeping projects moving while you’re on the move

A unified AI experience in Box Notes

We combined the inline composer and sidebar chat in Box Notes to make it easier to use AI without losing momentum on your work. Regardless of whether you access Box AI through the inline composer or the sidebar, your conversation history is now preserved as a single session. The inline view keeps your workspace clean by displaying only inline turns, while the sidebar view shows the entire session history, with clear labels for which responses were generated inline. To ensure a smooth experience, you can run one active AI query at a time in the Box Note.

We’ve also rolled out several highly requested formatting and navigation updates to Box Notes:

1. Inline image cropping: Crop images directly within the Note
2. Slash menu with filtering: Type / to quickly insert tables, callouts, or inline AI chats, and start typing the menu option you want to filter down your choices
3. Datepicker: Easily insert dates directly from the Slash menu
4. Redesigned quick search: Find what you need faster with a sleek new search experience
5. Streamlined menus: The "settings" and "more options" menus have been merged for a cleaner interface; click on the three dots (ellipses) in the top right to access all your options
6. Keyboard shortcuts: An improved display of keyboard shortcuts helps you work even faster (find the full list of keyboard shortcuts through the “more options” menu)
