Dash Release Notes - October 2025
Dash delivers major updates including dual desktop modes, an MCP server, full-text processing for long documents, semantic image search, a redesigned Stacks with AI summaries and easy sharing, Dropbox integration, and wider team availability.
Release notes
- Desktop dual mode: Dash on desktop now supports two modes: a lightweight launcher (triggered by Cmd-E on Mac and Ctrl-E on Windows) for quick actions like search, and a persistent full app view (Cmd-Shift-E on Mac or Ctrl-Shift-E on Windows) that stays open while you work. This update helps streamline multitasking and makes Dash more accessible across workflows. Available to select teams and rolling out gradually. Learn more here.
- Dash MCP server: The local Dash MCP server is now available, bringing Dash’s AI-powered search and context directly into MCP-compatible clients like Claude and Cursor. Users can find the answers and insights they need to take action, without switching tabs or breaking focus. Learn more here.
- Full support for large text documents in chat: Chat now processes the full text extracted from long documents—enabling more complete summaries and answers, especially for large files like contracts, logs, or reports. This improvement enhances relevance and accuracy across all supported connectors. Learn more here.
- Find images using natural language with semantic image search. Dash now supports semantic image search, allowing users to find images by describing their content instead of relying on filenames or tags. This makes it easier to locate and reuse visual content. Learn more here.
- New Stacks experience for organizing and sharing content: The redesigned Stacks experience lets users organize files and folders into visual, customizable workspaces—complete with AI-generated titles, sections, descriptions, and summaries. Stacks now support grid and list views, inline previews, commenting, and embedded AI chat. Sharing has also been simplified: Dropbox content in a Stack is automatically viewable by recipients with one-click access granting, no matter where the file lives. Learn more here.
- Dash is now built into Dropbox: Essential Dash features like AI multimedia search, contextual chat, and Stacks are now part of the Dropbox customers rely on every day. Dropbox users will be able to find what they need faster, easily get clear answers with context, and stay organized. Available to select teams and rolling out gradually.
- Dash is now available to teams of all sizes. Teams can now get started with the Dash app even faster and more easily, without talking to sales or IT. Users can set up Dash and connect to the tools they already use—including Slack, Microsoft 365, Notion and Canva—in minutes. Available to select teams in the U.S. and rolling out gradually.

Dash Release Notes - September 2025
New Protect and control features automate policy remediation with alerts, add a resizable item drawer, enable OCR to extract/search text in images and PDFs, allow creating Stacks from search results, auto-share Dropbox content in Stacks, and summarize large Stacks (20+ files) for quick insights.
Protect and control: policies with automated remediations and alerts: Organization admins can now automate remediation and receive email alerts on policy matches through a new Policies tab in Protect and control. This feature offers preset and granular filters, enabling quick identification of risks and streamlined policy enforcement. Policies can automatically remediate issues—such as removing a shared link—or send email alerts based on configured options. When automated remediation isn’t set, admins can manually take action, including applying bulk remediations across multiple policy matches and policy states. These enhancements improve security oversight and help teams act efficiently at scale. Learn more here.
Protect and control: resizable drawer: The item details drawer in Protect and control, as well as Action History, can now be resized, giving admins the flexibility to adjust the width of the interface for better visibility and easier navigation. This resizable drawer makes it easier to view long file names, scan details without scrolling, and navigate the interface more comfortably. Learn more here.
Image Optical Character Recognition (OCR): Dash now detects and extracts text from images and scanned documents, supporting file types like JPG, PNG, TIFF, and PDF. Users can search for keywords in these file types using dedicated filters, view highlighted text snippets, and navigate directly to the matching document. This enhances Dash’s ability to surface information from screenshots, whiteboard photos, scanned forms, and more. Learn more here.
Create Stacks from search results: Users can now create a Stack directly from search results. This feature captures the top 5 ranked items from a search query and groups them into a new Stack that’s named after the query, making it easier to organize and revisit related content. Learn more here.
Seamless sharing of Dropbox content via Stacks: Files and folders added to a Stack from Dropbox are now shared automatically—no need to manage individual permissions. Shared users instantly gain access to all content they’re allowed to view, and future additions to the Stack inherit the same permissions. This eliminates access request friction and simplifies collaboration. Learn more here.
Summarize Stacks with over 20 files: Dash now supports summarization for Stacks containing over 20 files, enabling faster content consolidation and review at scale. The summary pulls key insights across large sets of documents, helping users quickly understand essential themes and topics. Learn more here.
