Array Formula support, Spill, and 17 new functions

We're thrilled to announce that our platform now supports dynamic array formulas, which is capable of automatically spilling results into adjacent cells. This powerful update allows you to write one formula to instantly sort, filter, and perform complex calculations on entire ranges of data, without ever having to drag and fill again. In addition to arrays formulas and spill, we’ve also added 17 new functions to help you better utilize arrays in Workiva. Here are the new functions:

• CHOOSECOLS — extract specific columns from a range or array.
• CHOOSEROWS — extract specific rows from a range or array.
• COLUMNS — determine the number of columns in a specified array or reference.
• DROP — remove a specified number of rows or columns from the beginning or end of an array or range.
• FILTER — extract rows from a range or array that meet specified conditions.
• HSTACK — to horizontally stack multiple ranges or arrays into a single range.
• MMULT — calculate the matrix product of two arrays. The MMULT function returns the product of two arrays as a matrix.
• ROWS — determine the number of rows in a specified array or reference.
• SEQUENCE — generate a list of sequential numbers in an array.
• SORT — dynamically sort a range or array by one or more columns in ascending or descending order.
• TAKE — extract a specified number of rows or columns from the beginning or end of a range or array.
• TOCOL — an array as a single column.
• TOROW — an array as a single row.
• TRANSPOSE — convert a vertical range of cells to a horizontal range, or vice versa.
• TEXTSPLIT — split text strings into rows and columns based on specified delimiters.
• UNIQUE — extract a list of unique values in a list or range. Values can be text, numbers, dates, times, etc.
• VSTACK — vertically stack multiple ranges or arrays into a single range

Please note that to use the new functionality, your document must be using the latest Formula Version (Formula Version 5). You can check which formula version your document is on by reviewing the Properties section in your Spreadsheets, Document, or Presentation. By default, the majority of documents will be on Formula Version 5. However, if your document is not on Formula Version 5, you can contact support to request to have your file upgrade to the newest formula version. Please note that upgrading your document to Formula Version 5 may change how

Minor Changes / Bug Fixes

Minor Changes / Bug Fixes In addition to the introduction of arrays, spill, and 17 new formulas, Formula Version 5 also brings some minor changes and bug fixes:

• Fixed a bug in the COUNTIF(S) functions when searching over an unbounded range (e.g. A:A) with a criteria that is satisfied by empty.
• Fixed a bug in the AND/OR functions when searching a range that has text values that can't be parsed as boolean.
• Certain functions now more reliably propagate errors that are directly passed as an argument. (SUBTOTAL, HLOOKUP, VLOOKUP)
• Certain functions that would return a single cell reference now actually return a reference instead of the cell's value. (IF, IFS, CHOOSE, INDEX)
• Certain functions that couldn't search for blanks in an unbounded range now can do so. (COUNTBLANK, TEXTJOIN)
• Improvements to the validation logic used to ensure ranges given to *IF(S) functions have compatible sizes.
• Small tweaks to function argument validation to better match other spreadsheet applications. (example: VLOOKUP’s table_array parameter now requires a range/array)
• Many functions were updated to treat single cell references the same as range references for consistency. (example: SUMPRODUCT when given a single cell reference to an empty cell.)

You can now use the Highlight button on text within any table cell. We've also grouped all table formatting tools together in the toolbar to make them easier to find.

Carbon

• Bulk upload Waste data from spreadsheets You can now add data for Waste by uploading spreadsheets in any format for multiple locations. You’ll get suggestions to help you map the headings and values to fields in Workiva Carbon. To make sure your upload is successful, you’ll be guided to fix issues before you can import. Sustainability

• "Pending" status for metric values with no tasks For clarity, values not included in metric tasks now display a status of "Pending" in Sustainability Program until complete. Previously, these values showed a status of "Not started". You'll also see the pending status in the topic view as well as in the pie chart within the metric view. A recent release to the Workiva platform included improvements to the following products and features. You can learn more about each item in the section below.

Binders

• New: Multi-file uploads to Binders You can now upload multiple files to Binders from outside of Workiva by multi-selecting in the file browser as you would normally.

Carbon

• New: Control who can filter by groups on the Measure dashboard With the new Filter by groups permission, you can now remove the ability for a custom role to filter the Measure dashboard based on entry and location groups. By default, custom roles can filter by groups.

Chains

• New: Workiva Get Sheet Data command adds "Use Platform API" option WorkivaGet Sheet Datacommand adds "Use Platform API" option In the Workiva connector, theGet Sheet Datacommand now has a "Use Platform API " option. When this box is marked, this command returns the sheet data using standard decimal notation. If it is blank, the sheet data is returned using scientific notation. This will force the command to use theRetrieve data from a sheet endpointrather than the spreadsheet API'sReturn data from a region endpoint.

Generative AI

• New: Documents Companion can read Chart Backing Table data The Workiva AI Companion in documents is now able to read the backing table data for any inline chart.
• Change: Google Gemini Model upgraded Workiva AI is upgrading the model provided via Google from Gemini 1.5 Pro to Google's Gemini 2.5 Flash. The model upgrade will improve intelligence and performance. This change will be done automatically and there are no actions required from the user. The Knowledge Cutoff date of this model is January 2025.

Sustainability

• New: Browse and select source files for metric values When you connect a metric value to a source file from a Sustainability Program, you can now browse to and open the source file (similar to Files) from the value details. When you complete the connection from the file, you can then hover over a metric value to view its connected source file and section. • New: Import items into Sustainability Program From a Sustainability Program, you can now generate Spreadsheet templates to add new items 6 such as dimensions, tags, topic, metrics, and metric details 6 in bulk. When you import the templates into the Program, it validates their details and helps resolve any errors before adding the new items. • New: View Sustainability Program metric values from all collection periods You can now select to view values for all collection periods of the Program year from any Sustainability Program metric. Chains

Sage Intacct Get Trial Balances V2 option added

• In the Sage Intacct connector, the Trial Balance node now has a "Use V2" option. When this is active, all "subs" field now explicitly send "false" if their checkbox is blank.

SFTP Connector list directory command updated

• The "list directory" command in the SFTP Connector has been updated. "Remote files details" now returns a JSON array with the following fields:
  • modifiedTime = last time the SFTP file was modified
  • mode = file mode
  • remoteFile = path to the remote file (this matches the other output)
  • accessedTime = last time the SFTP file was accessed

• Simplify writing for European Sustainability Reporting Standards with Workiva AI
• To help simplify the complexities of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), you can now use the ESRS Intelligence knowledge base to ask Workiva AI to summarize and clarify the Standards and their disclosure requirements. If your Sustainability Explorer includes the ESRS, you can also view the source content used by Workiva AI to develop its response.
• ESRS Intelligence is available for any Sustainability Reporting Advanced workspace that has Workiva AI enabled.

Carbon

• New controls for who can edit category configurations
  • You can now choose whether team members with custom roles can edit entries, configurations, or both. These new permissions are available for all categories within Measure.
• Version 3 emission factor library available
  • Carbon now includes an updated library of emission factor (EF) datasets. From your company profile, you can choose the reporting year to begin to use the new Version 3 EF library for calculations.

Filing

• Analyze SEC filings with Workiva's SEC Filing Intelligence
  • Workiva's SEC Filing Intelligence lets you use Workiva's SEC 10K knowledge base to analyze and compare your filings against industry peers. Workiva AI can help provide insights and answer questions about the content of your selected SEC filings.

Linking

• Updated link and connection limits
  • We've increased our limits to allow you to make even more links and connections between your files.
  • Links per document: 200,000 (previously 70,000)
  • Connections per document: 300 incoming & 300 outgoing (previously 100 each)

Workiva AI

• Improved loading experience for Workiva AI
  • Workiva AI has a new loading experience aimed at improving user confidence that their prompt is still operating effectively even when the wait exceeds several seconds. A message will be displayed after 15 seconds to confirm that things are working with a count-up timer to help users know how long their prompt has been in process. Going forward, Workiva plans on providing more detail around the internal status of prompts to give you more clarity and insight into the progress of your prompts.
• Workiva AI can now access data in document tables
  • We've updated Workiva AI so that it can now access and reference data held in document tables. This unlocks new possibilities when intelligently referencing specific files in chat, or using the new intelligent companion.

Workiva AI Intelligent Companion

• We’re making it even easier to work more efficiently with Workiva AI. The new Intelligent Companion brings side-by-side collaboration directly into your documents, helping you create, refine, and finalize content. This release includes:
  • Right-hand panel access – enabling side-by-side collaboration directly within your reporting workflow.
  • Context awareness – The companion has continuous real-time context of the in-line text and tables in your open document to provide relevant, higher-value responses without the need to reference any files.
  • Content editor – Rephrase, summarize, elaborate, or generate content with one click right where you’re working, with an improved user experience that’s fully integrated with the Companion.
  • Rich text insert – Seamlessly insert AI-generated content directly into your document while preserving your formatting and style guides.

Workiva AI — File types and availability

• Workiva AI now supports Microsoft Office files, images, and more
  • Workiva AI can now reference a wider variety of non-Workiva file types directly in chat. This release adds support for common Microsoft Office files, images, and CSV files, allowing users to analyze and generate content from a broader range of their own data without leaving the platform.

    • AWS: Offers the most comprehensive support, including PDF, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, all major image types (.jpeg, .png, .gif), and CSV files.
    • Google: Supports PDF, images (.jpeg, .png), and CSV files.
    • Microsoft: Currently only supports native Workiva documents for file referencing.
  • Optical Character Recognition (OCR):
    • Workiva AI can read and understand text, numbers, and visual information (tables, charts) within images and PDFs.

• Support for multiple waterfall charts with multiple series
  • You can now create waterfall charts that use multiple series, as shown in the following images:

Filing

• Bulk filing now supports EDGAR Next
• Bulk filing for non-Section 16 filings now supports EDGAR Next (Section 16 bulk filing is coming soon!). In order to enable the EDGAR Next options while maintaining consistency with the single filing flow, interface updates were made; see the following images for examples.
• EDGAR Next User Token Expiration Reminder
  • Because EDGAR Next user tokens must be regenerated every 30 days, we have added an automated reminder email for this token expiration for our EDGAR Next filers.
  • The email is sent 5 business days in advance of your token expiring.
  • Here is a sample of the email message.

Platform

• Styles dropdown readability improvement for light text
  • To make it easier for you to identify styles that use light-colored text, the toolbar Styles dropdown list now shows the background for these styles as black.
  • This change is available in Documents, Spreadsheets, and Presentations, and only affects the preview.
  • The threshold for this display is #EBEBEB (also known as "Hex Gray 29", "Whisper", or "Mercury").

Carbon

• New: Update CDP 2025 submission from Carbon From Report, you can now review responses automatically generated for Environmental Performance questions of your CDP 2025 submission, based on your entries in Carbon. You can also directly update from Carbon your company's submission in the CDP portal with these responses.

Chains

• Update: Oracle Analytics container no longer supports the "Execute MaxL Script" command The "Execute MaxL Script" command is no longer supported in the Oracle Analytics container, as Oracle has discontinued support for this command in the Oracle Essbase 21 API.

  • Chains without the command will no longer be able to access the command.
  • Existing chains with it will see a warning in the logs.

• New: Google Drive connector now supports access to shared Google Drives Workiva has enhanced the Chains Google Drive connector to provide the option of connecting to shared drives. This update allows writing to shared drives in Connection configuration in addition to the existing read capability. To enable this access, a checkbox has been added to the Connector configuration dialog.

Data Management

• New: New "Placeholders Locations" panel Managing and navigating your document's placeholders is now easier than ever. "Placeholder locations" provides a new way to help you quickly understand where and how your placeholders are being used. Key updates:
  • Placeholder Usage Count: When you select a placeholder, locations now displays a count of all its references in the document, showing you exactly how many times it's been used.
  • Seamless Navigation: You can now jump between a placeholder's reference in the panel and its location in the document.
  • Enhanced Search & Sort: Quickly find specific placeholders by searching for the placeholder name in the panel and organize your placeholders in the panel by name.

Generative AI

• Upgrade: AWS Model upgraded from Claude Sonnet 3.5 to Claude Sonnet 4 Workiva AI has upgraded the Claude model provided via AWS from Claude Sonnet 3.5 to Claude Sonnet 4. This upgrade will improve intelligence and performance. This change will be done automatically and there are no actions required from the user. The Knowledge Cutoff date of this model is January 2025.

Update CDP 2025 submission from Carbon

From Report, you can now review responses automatically generated for Environmental Performance questions of your CDP 2025 submission, based on your entries in Carbon. Carbon

• New: Bulk upload data into Carbon from Workiva Spreadsheets
  • From Measure, you can now select a Workiva Spreadsheet as the source for a bulk upload of Buildings or Vehicles data. IMPORTANT: When you upload a Workiva Spreadsheet, you are creating a snapshot of its data at that time — not a dynamic connection. To ensure accurate calculations, upload a Spreadsheet only when data collection is complete and validated. Sustainability

• New: Reset the view of Sustainability Program metric
  • From Sustainability Program, you can adjust the columns of a metric's Values or Tasks, such as their sort order or to view only specific columns. To return Values or Tasks to their default column settings, simply click Reset view.
