Audit Management Essentials
Audit Testing Add-in for Excel
The Audit Testing Add-in for Excel enables connected attribute-based testing between Microsoft Excel and Workiva, with conclusions and testing details automatically reflected in Workiva. With the Audit Testing Add-in, you can:
- Download a copy of your original evidence to mark up that links to the workpaper and attributes.
View attributes for one or more samples and explicitly set conclusions as Pass, Fail, or Not Applicable. - Place attribute indicators (Excel Notes) on cells or ranges to document how evidence supports each conclusion.
- Associate testing with specific samples within a file.
- Automatically record authorship of attribute indicators.
- Work with large, complex Excel files in their native format
- Automatically send attribute conclusions to the Workiva testing matrix and sync changes to the Excel file to Workiva
To learn more, see this Workiva Support page: Apply evidence markup.
Bulk Creation of General Requests
Users can now bulk create general requests by uploading an Excel file in the Requests tab on a project. The import workflow creates all the requests and allows for those to be reviewed and sent individually or in bulk. Now you can bulk create either General or Population requests for a project at the same time.

Sustainability
Prompt Workiva AI with Simplified ESRS Intelligence
To have Workiva AI help clarify the complexities of the simplified European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), you can add the new Simplified ESRS Intelligence knowledge base. With this knowledge base, you can prompt Workiva AI to summarize and explain the draft simplified Standards and their disclosure requirements, as published by the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) in December 2025.
You can continue add the ESRS Intelligence knowledge base to help clarify the ESRS Delegated Act and corrigendum published to the Official Journal in 2024 or help compare and contrast the different versions' requirements.
If your Sustainability Explorer includes the ESRS, you can also view the source content used by Workiva AI to develop its response. To learn more, see this Workiva Support page: Use Workiva Ai With European Sustainability Reporting Standards.
Explore 2026 CDP questionnaire content
To help prepare disclosures to CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project), you can now include the content of 2026 CDP Corporate and Small/Medium Enterprise (SME) questionnaires — all questions, their response options, and scoring criteria — in Sustainability Explorer. To include this content, select 2026 CDP or All frameworks from the Properties panel.
Use this content to help prepare for the 2026 disclosure cycle:- Browse the questionnaires, and bookmark questions for easy reference throughout the workspace.
- Discuss questions, their responses, and scoring criteria with other workspace members as Comments.
- Align questions with metrics in Sustainability Program that collect related values to help inform responses.
Note that this release only enables the 2026 CDP content in Explorer. The CDP Questionnaire within Explorer will support 2026 responses in a future release, when CDP opens their submission window.
To learn more, see this Workiva Support page: Explore CDP Questionnaire For Sustainability Reporting.

Workiva updates Chains GroundRunner with bug fixes and maintainability improvements, and automatically rolls instances to version 9.21.1. Users who missed the rollout may need a manual update before older GroundRunners and related chains stop working in 2026.
Recent releases to the Workiva platform included improvements to the following products and features. You can learn more about each item in the sections below.

Updated: Chains GroundRunner
Chains
Chains GroundRunner updated
We updated the Workiva GroundRunner last week to address some small bugs and to make the GroundRunner more maintainable going forward. Existing GroundRunners and their related chains will no longer function after August 17th, 2026.
For most users, no action on your part is required. Your GroundRunner instances will be automatically updated to version 9.21.1.
If your GroundRunner didn't auto-restart after the May 19-20 rollout, it is most likely due to one of two reasons:
- It is installed on a computer that was not active when the rollout happened.
SOLUTION: When this computer is next back online, it should automatically be updated. - Your GroundRunner installation did not correctly restart after the update was installed.
SOLUTION: Follow the instructions in the "What happens if a GroundRunner did not auto-update?" section of the Workiva Support page: Chains GroundRunner update.
If you your GroundRunner did not update to version 9.21.1, please complete the steps listed in the following section.
Manual GroundRunner update
- Manually update your outdated GroundRunners by following the Support document: Manually Update a GroundRunner.
- After updating, verify that the GroundRunner version is 9.21.1.
For more information see this Workiva Support page: Chains GroundRunner update.
Questions/Support: Please collaborate with your IT department to perform the required manual GroundRunner update. For any questions or troubleshooting assistance, Contact Workiva Support.

Audit Management Essentials
Connect existing Workiva files and add hyperlinks in General Files
Workpaper preparers and reviewers can now connect existing Workiva files and add hyperlinks directly in a workpaper’s General Files section.
General requests
Requests for General Files makes it easier to collect supporting files directly within a workpaper. General requests let you request files beyond populations and samples, giving teams a more flexible way to gather the documentation they need. After entering the request details, a request task is sent to the assignee, who can then upload the requested file or files directly to the workpaper.
Sample selection
This is a new two-step workflow that lets auditors select evidence samples directly within a workpaper population file. Auditors can clean up data by hiding irrelevant rows and columns, and then select samples using random, judgmental, or filtered methods with a full audit trail logged automatically.
Carbon
Control unmapped spend in Purchases
To ensure your total emissions are accurate for purchased goods and services, you can now control how Workiva Carbon manages your unmapped spend (transactions that haven't been assigned to a specific commodity, supplier, or emissions override).
To learn more about spend-based extrapolation, see this Workiva Support page: Measure Purchases.
Workiva Carbon data ledgers
Get a more detailed view of how emission-generating activity data contribute to your total emissions with new data ledgers. Go to Measure and select Vehicles, People, Waste, Water, or Custom to view a new ledger. Each ledger includes individual records by date, location, scope, emission category, and other attributes. You’ll find emissions at the row level and a new column for biogenic emissions. You can filter and sort, customize columns, and export either the full dataset or a filtered view.
To learn more, see this Workiva Support page: Workiva Carbon data ledgers.
Controls Management
Bulk create population requests
Users can now bulk create population requests by uploading an Excel file in the Requests tab on a project. The import workflow creates all the requests and allows for those to be reviewed and sent individually or in bulk.

This is a new two-step workflow that lets auditors select evidence samples directly within a workpaper population file . Auditors clean up data by hiding irrelevant rows and columns, then select samples using random, judgmental, or filtered methods with a full audit trail logged automatically.
Documents
New lists
Three new lists have been released! These lists are primarily to support users in APAC and include Chinese Financial Formal Numerals, Enclosed Numbers and Black Arrowheads (unordered). These lists will be visible in the default list dropdown and can be included in custom list styles. Chinese Financial Formal Numbers will only be visible when Chinese, Japanese or Korean locales are set on the document.
Note: In existing documents, these lists will need to be added to style guides (either manually or via a style guide import). These lists will automatically be included in any newly created document.
Platform
Include Markup available on PDF exports from Document reviews
Exporting a PDF from a Document review now includes the option to include Markup. This option can be found under the Advanced options.

Sustainability
New: Draft simplified ESRS in Sustainability Explorer
Files and Folders
Duplicate file name resolution when restoring from trash
Previously when a document was restored from trash, there could be a "duplicate name" error if there was a live document with that name already in the workspace. Now if the name of the document being restored from the trash duplicates that of a live document, "Restored" is added to the name of the restored document to make it unique and identifiable.
Sustainability
Draft simplified ESRS in Sustainability Explorer
If your Sustainability Explorer includes the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), you can now explore a Draft version of the simplified Standards from the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG).
This version includes a number of amendments from the ESRS Delegated Act of 2023, including:
- Increased clarity of disclosure requirements
- Better alignment with global reporting standards like the IFRS SDS
- Fewer total number of mandatory datapoints

Workiva adds Carbon Select controls for choosing exact Scope 3 categories and applying emission factors with or without margin, improves link utilization visibility across files, and adds a delete confirmation for groups to help prevent accidental data loss.
Carbon
Select exact Scope 3 categories and margins for Purchase commodities
You can now choose the exact Scope 3 category (1 or 2) for each of your Purchase commodities. You can also apply emission factors with or without margin (sales tax).
General
View link utilization
The Link Properties panel now shows your current link utilization. The panel now displays how many links your file uses and the maximum you can have, so you can track usage and prevent issues as you approach the limit. This improvement applies to documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.

To learn more, see this Workiva Support page: Linking Feature Limits.
Confirm before you delete groups
To help prevent accidental data loss, you will now be prompted to confirm before you delete a group on the Company Profile page. A deleted group can’t be recovered. If the group has any subgroups, those subgroups will be deleted. If the group is assigned to any entries or locations, those assignments will be deleted.

If your Sustainability Reporting workspace includes the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) add-on and you want to prepare your double-materiality assessment (DMA) templates for the topics of the simplified European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), you can now request a Spreadsheet template from your Customer Success Manager or advisory partner:
• To start fresh for the simplified ESRS and not retain your DMA templates' current topics, request the Simplified DMA topics and DRs bulk import Spreadsheet to import the new topics and disclosure requirements (DRs).
• If you previously used the DMA templates for the ESRS Delegated Act of 2023 and want to retain their current topics, request the Simplified DMA topics and DR update accelerator Spreadsheet to decide how your current topics map to the new topics.
Consult your advisory partner to help decide which template is right for you. Your partner can also assist if you choose to update your DMA templates' current topics or their impacts, risks, and opportunities (IROs).
To learn more, see this Workiva Support page: Update DMA templates for simplified European Sustainability Reporting Standards.View completed metric values when connected sources change
For added data integrity, the Sustainability Program no longer automatically updates Completed metric values when their connected sources change. If a source value changes, notifications now appear on its connected metric and the source file's Sustainability panel. From Program settings, a Program Owner can also enable additional email notifications to Program Owners and Task Owners.
To quickly identify Completed values that differ from their connected source values, you can now run a Health check from Program overview in Sustainability Program.
Important: To update a Completed metric value with its changed source value, first reset the value or reopen its task.

Chains
MDX command in IBM Planning Analytics TM1 connector updated
The MDX command was modified to allow for better handling of commas in the data flow.
If the Enable Value Quoting checkbox is blank (default), commas in the data flow are treated as element separators. This is the same as current behavior.
Example: March 30, 2026 would be treated as two elements: "March 30" and "2026".
If the Enable Value Quoting checkbox is marked, elements containing commas are treated as a single data element. (Commas are treated as punctuation rather than as data element separators.)
Example: March 30, 2026 would be treated as one element: "March 30, 2026".

Workiva rolls out DOCX Style Guides export and Sustainability updates like copying automations, attachments, comments, or labels when rolling to a new Program year, plus a Sustainability Program topic limit increase to 1,000. User invite flow tweaks enhance org management.
Documents
- New: DOCX Export now includes Style Guides.
Workiva document style guides are now exported as part of Microsoft *.docx exports. This allows you to see the Workiva styles when a document is exported as *.docx files.
General
- Change: Name and email display when adding an existing Organization user.
We have modified how the Workiva platform behaves when adding a user to an Organization. When adding a user to an Organization, the platform checks to see if the user name already exists. If it does, you will be asked if you would like to proceed with inviting the existing user. If you say "yes", the platform will attempt to retrieve the full user info. If it succeeds (i.e. if the operator is a superadmin) the user info is displayed in a read-only manner (this is the same as existing behavior). If it fails to retrieve the full user info, the UI will still appear, but the email, first name, and last name are hidden.
Sustainability
- New: Copy automations, attachments, comments, or outline labels to new Program year.
- New: Sustainability Program now supports up to 1,000 topics.
When you add a reporting year in Sustainability Program, you can now choose whether to copy automations for files created during the roll-forward. You can also now choose whether to also include attachments, comments, or outline labels 6 separately 6 in the copies; previously, you could only include them together.
