    Canny

    @Canny in Slack

Canny improves its Slack integration with @Canny mentions in channels and threads, making it easier to capture feedback, create or update ideas, add insights, and create users or companies without leaving Slack. The update adds a more modern chat-style workflow for all plans.

Our Slack integration just got big upgrade. Instead of old-style slash commands, you can now mention @Canny in any channel or thread and get it to:

    Capture feedback in any thread

Say something like "@Canny track this on behalf of acme.com" and it'll capture the context, hand it to Autopilot for deduping, and reply with a link to the new or existing idea.

    Create ideas or add insights

No need to leave the conversation. You can also modify fields like the owner and status.

    Create users and companies

If a user or company doesn't exist in Canny yet, create them from Slack.

This update offers a more modern version of the Slack integration with a comfortable chat interface. Available on all Canny plans.

    View sharing

Canny adds view sharing in Canny Ideas, giving teams more control over who can see and edit views. New views start private by default, and owners can share access with teammates or teams using flexible permission levels.

You can now control who can see and edit views in Canny Ideas. This is built for larger teams with many view and admins.

    How it works

By default, the owner of a view is the user who created it. New views start out private to their owner. Existing views before this update are unchanged and are editable by any admins with view edit permissions.

Open the view's menu by clicking or right-clicking the selected tab, then choose Share.

From there you can add individual teammates, set general or team access, and pick an access level for each. Teams are groups of admins and can be managed here.

    Access levels

Owner: Full control, including sharing and deletion

Can edit: Change the view's name, filters, columns, and sort

Can see: Open and use the view. Any changes are not saved.

    Good to know

The default "All Ideas" and "Portal" views are always shared with the entire team

Admin roles and permissions takes precedence over view share settings. Therefore, contributor-level admins will not be able to edit view.

View sharing is available for teams on the Business plan.

    Upgraded reporting tab

Canny adds a refreshed Reporting experience with organized Ideas, Autopilot, and Portal sections, each with an overview and global date range picker. It also brings deeper idea drilldowns and richer views of feedback, revenue, pipeline, and portal activity.

Reporting in Canny has gotten a big upgrade in the last couple weeks! The Reporting tab has a fresh look and is now organized into sections: Ideas, Autopilot, and Portal. Each tab opens with an overview and has a global date range picker so you can scope every tab to a specific time period.

    Ideas reporting

The Ideas reporting tab aims to show you ideas worth looking into.

Customer Requests report surfaces priority feedback alongside renewal date and risk.

Sales Pipeline report shows open opportunities that are linked to ideas and how much revenue you could earn.

Churned Revenue report surfaces features ranked by most churned revenue, so you can see what's potentially losing you customers.

Groups report shows the volume of feedback for each of your groups and the sums of associated revenue and opportunity revenue.

Theme trends shows popularity of trends across all your ideas over time.

You can now also drill down into select numbers. Click on the metric to see the relevant ideas.

    Autopilot reporting

The Autopilot reporting tab shows you what Autopilot has been doing:

    • How many items it has processed and from which sources
    • How many new ideas and insights Autopilot captured

    Portal reporting

The Portal reporting tab shows you activity in your feedback portal:

    • Overview of new feedback, votes, comments
    • Feedback that is stale (has an active status but hasn't been updated in more than four weeks)
    • Admin activity
    • Breakdown per board

Not seeing data in your reports?

Link Canny Ideas to Linear Projects

Canny expands its Linear integration to support linking Projects alongside Issues and status syncing.

The Canny Linear integration now supports linking to Projects in addition to Issues. With the Linear integration installed, scroll down to the "Linked issues" section of any idea, search for the project name, and select the one you want.

You'll see a confirmation on the Linear side:

If you want statuses to stay in sync between Canny and Linear, set up your status mapping here.

The Linear integration is available to teams on any paid Canny plan.

    Relative date filtering for ideas

Canny adds relative date filtering for views, so teams can automatically keep ideas scoped to rolling time ranges like the last 7 or 30 days. It supports date fields such as created, due date, and status changed, and is available on all Canny plans.

Apply relative date filtering to your views so they automatically update as time passes.

Examples of how to use this filter

Look at ideas created in the last 7 days to triage them

Show completed ideas in the last 30 days to show your team what has shipped in the last month

Show published ideas with no status change for more than 30 days to catch up on outdated ideas

    How it works

In any ideas view, open the filters

Select any date field like created, due date, status changed, etc.

Select option "is in range" and specify how many days.

Now the view will always be filtered to the last X days you specified.

Alternatively, use the presets like "this month" so the view is scoped to determined time ranges.

This is available for teams on all Canny plans.

    MCP server updates

Canny expands its MCP server with 55+ tools for ideas, groups, users and companies, and portal comments. The update adds richer idea and insight management, saved views, HubSpot and Salesforce linking, faster group lookup, and new ways to create and manage users, companies, and comments.

We’re continuing to make improvements to the Canny MCP server! It now has over 55 tools, with new ones spanning ideas, groups, users/companies, and portal.

    Ideas

move_idea moves an idea under a new parent or into a new group

create_insight, update_insight, and delete_insight manage insights, with priority supported on create

move_insight moves an insight to another idea (insights linked to a vote or comment can't be moved)

link_opportunity and unlink_opportunity connect or disconnect a HubSpot deal or Salesforce opportunity from an idea

    create_view, update_view, and delete_view manage saved views

    Groups

retrieve_group looks up a single group by ID or urlName, which is faster than list_groups when you already know the identifier

    Users and companies

create_user creates a new end user and returns their ID. Passing an email deduplicates against existing users

create_company creates a company with a domain and optional MRR or ARR

add_user_to_company associates a user with a sepcified company

    remove_user_from_company removes a user's association from a specific company

    Portal comments

list_portal_comments pulls paginated comments across all published ideas or scoped to one

create_portal_comment adds a top-level comment or reply on a published idea

delete_portal_comment removes a comment and its replies

The MCP server is available to teams on the Pro plan and above.

    Autopilot auto-links opportunities & deals

Canny now automatically links open Salesforce and HubSpot opportunities to feedback captured in customer conversations, cutting manual work for teams with Autopilot. The feature is on by default for Salesforce and HubSpot integrations on Canny Business.

Autopilot now automatically links open Salesforce and HubSpot opportunities to the feedback it captures.

When Autopilot finds feedback in a customer conversation/call, it looks up the company in your CRM and attaches the relevant open opportunity. No more manual linking needed.

Note: Autopilot only links the opportunity when:

    • the company has a single open opportunity
    • the close date is in the future
    • the last activity happened within the past year

This is on by default for every team with Autopilot and a Salesforce or HubSpot integration installed.

Opportunities and deals are part of the Salesforce and HubSpot integrations, only available on Canny Business. Request a demo or reach out to our support team if you're interested in the Business plan.

    Run auto-grouping on demand

Canny adds manual auto-grouping for ideas once teams have at least three groups.

Autopilot automatically sorts new ideas into groups for you. If you have ungrouped ideas, you can now trigger auto-grouping manually.

Once your team has at least three groups, you'll see a button to run auto-grouping. Make sure your group descriptions are really good so Autopilot will be best informed.

Ideas beta available to customers on the Core plan

Canny brings the Ideas beta to all Core plan teams, giving customer feedback a centralized home with automatic triage, team groups, and revenue insights to help prioritize what matters most.

The Canny Ideas beta is now available to all teams on the Core plan.

Ideas is the centralized home for all your customer feedback inside Canny. It's where your team prioritizes feedback coming in from sales calls, support conversations, and your feedback portal.

Feedback automatically triaged to the right team

Groups in Ideas represent your product areas or teams. As feedback flows in from Intercom, Slack, Gong, and your portal, Autopilot triages it into the right groups.

    Connect feedback to revenue

Insights carry customer and company context so you can answer the questions that actually drive prioritization:

How much existing ARR is tied to this idea?

Which missing features are blocking your biggest deals and renewals?

How much closed-lost revenue last quarter mentioned this feature?

Learn more about Ideas in this help article

    Join the beta

Click on your profile in your Canny admin to see the "Join Ideas beta" option. If you need more time to trial Canny, reach out to our team to get you set up.

    Canny

    Manually create companies

Canny adds manual company creation for insights, giving teams a simpler way to track customer interest without syncing data and still supporting later deduping with synced company records.

Creating insights on behalf of companies is how you keep track of which customers are interested in a feature.

If you're able to sync in company information via a data source, we highly recommend that route. See Canny Identify to set up our SDK. This way, companies are automatically created, updated (ARR changes, admin changes, etc.), and you can pass in additional fields for segmentation (e.g. billing plan, NPS score, etc.).

We're now supporting manual creation of companies so:

    • Teams just starting out with Canny can see how things work without setting up syncing
    • Teams who are unable to get company data into Canny have an option to do it manually

    How it works

When adding an insight, you'll see an option to create a new company.

Name and domain are mandatory. Optionally include their MRR/ARR.

Selecting a user will automatically associate that user with the newly created company. Users can be unlinked from a company from the users tab.

If you start with manual creation and sync data afterwards, Canny will attempt to dedupe companies with domain name.

    New Slack DMs

Canny adds new Slack DM workflows to keep teams on top of feedback and follow-up. Account owners now get DMs when ideas are marked complete or assigned, with customer details and links to Salesforce or HubSpot records when available.

Many teams work in Slack so we're enabling new workflows by sending relevant notifications. Here are two new ones:

DMs to account owners when ideas marked as complete

When an idea moves to a Complete status, account owners get a Slack DM with the customers they own who shared insight on that feedback. It allows customer success and sales to close the loop with their customers and prospects.

The DM lists each company and (if available) links straight to its Salesforce or HubSpot record so they can jump in and follow up.

For this to work, you'll need the account owner field mapped under your company data settings:

DMs to owners when ideas are assigned

When ideas are assigned to an owner, they will get a Slack DM. This helps you stay on top of important work.

These DMs are available for teams on all plans.

    Exporting ideas

Canny adds CSV export for Ideas views, preserving filters, sorting, and visible fields.

You can now export any Ideas views to CSV. Just right-click a view and select Export view.

Exports preserve the view configuration, including:

    • sort order
    • applied filters
    • visible fields

This is available to teams on any Canny plan.

    Push to Portal settings

Canny adds Push to Portal settings so Autopilot ideas can be automatically published to the feedback Portal for supported integrations.

These settings are relevant for teams using the feedback Portal. By default, ideas created by Autopilot are not published the Portal. This leaves it up to your team to decide which ideas are visible to end users.

With the new Push to Portal settings, you can configure it so that ideas created by Autopilot are also automatically published.

Note that this is a per-integration setting so you'll need to turn it on for each integration you want this behavior to take place.

Push to Portal is available for: Intercom, Zendesk, HubSpot, Salesforce, Slack, and the Chrome Extension
