    Kick

    Automated invoice and bill reconciliation

Kick adds automated invoice and bill reconciliation plus line item control on Plus. It now proposes matches for transactions, including partial and split payments, lets users confirm in one click, and supports line-by-line coding across classes, accounts, and projects.

Kick now matches invoices and bills to transactions automatically, so you never have to match a payment by hand again.

In other systems, matching payments to open invoices and bills is a manual process prone to errors. Tracking down a partial payment, or a transaction split across multiple invoices, means opening records one by one to find the right match.

To solve this, Kick automatically proposes matches between your transactions and open invoices and bills, so all you have to do is confirm.

    1-click reconciliation

    • Matched invoices and bills are previewed inline, so you can confirm without opening a separate screen
    • Confirm all matches at once by clicking Confirm all, or by pressing ⌘ + ⏎ on your keyboard

    Complex matches

    • Kick automatically identifies partial payments and transactions that apply to multiple invoices or bills
    • Complex matches are always surfaced for review, so you stay in control

    Classes and custom accounts

    • Matched transactions inherit the Class and custom Accounts Receivable or Payable account from the original invoice or bill
    • Payables and receivables reporting stays accurate by project, department, or any custom segment

Automated Invoice and Bill Reconciliation is available on the Plus plan.

To get started, enable the Accrual ledger for a business, then head to the Tasks tab.

    Line Item Control

Managing bills and invoices at scale often means paying for software most small businesses can’t justify.

Kick gives you enterprise-level control over bills and invoice line items, on the Plus plan.

    Line item coding

    • Split a single invoice or bill across multiple Classes, accounts, or projects by coding each line separately
    • Custom receivables and payables accounts show you exactly where money is owed and by whom

    Sync, import, edit

    • Bills and invoices from integrations sync automatically, coded to the accounts already assigned in each system
    • Import bills and invoices from any system using the Universal Importer or Kick MCP
    • Filter, select, and edit line items across multiple bills and invoices at once, the same way you’d work through a batch of transactions

Head to the Bill Pay and Invoicing tabs on the Plus plan to get started.

    Kick MCP

Kick launches Kick MCP, a new accounting toolset for AI assistants that lets teams read, write, and manage financial data across clients with existing permissions. It brings a faster review-first workflow and supports paid plans in under 5 minutes of setup.

Today we’re sharing Kick MCP, a comprehensive set of accounting tools to scale your judgement.

Most software doesn’t talk to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or your AI tool of choice. While some claim to offer MCP, when you test them, you find they’re limited or expose only a fraction of your data.

To solve this, Kick has been building with two product roadmaps: one for humans and another for agents.

The result is a new way of working where the agent creates the first draft, and you review and approve with confidence.

    From doer to reviewer

Kick MCP gives you access to tools across both:

    • Read: Access all your data across multiple businesses and clients
    • Write: Create, edit, and manage everything from journal entries to client setup

A few examples of what you can prompt:

    • Run a 13-week cash flow analysis for a purchase or sale decision
    • Surface all category changes made by your team across clients over the last month
    • Record an asset purchase, calculate depreciation, and book monthly entries
    • Apply a custom Chart of Accounts for one client across all your clients
    • And more in our use case library

Connect Kick with other tools like property or inventory management to combine your financial data with industry-specific context.

MCP is available on all paid plans. Kick respects existing permissions and security to ensure your team only has access to assigned entities or clients.

    Getting started

Setup takes less than 5 minutes:

    1. Open your AI tool of choice (Claude, ChatGPT, etc)
    2. Install the Kick MCP
    3. Start prompting

    Performance Reporting

Kick adds faster, fully customizable reporting and multi-entity Chart of Accounts management. It now supports custom columns, vendor expense reporting, custom periods, period comparisons, and a cleaner way to manage accounts across entities from the Accounting tab.

Today we’re sharing some updates made to reporting that make it both blazing fast, and completely customizable.

Getting a custom view of your reports can often feel slow and unintuitive in other accounting systems.

To solve this, we’ve engineered Kick reporting to feel nearly instant — even when you’re slicing, comparing, and changing views.

    Customizable columns

Run your reports with columns broken out by:

    • Class or Subclass, to see performance across locations, projects, departments, or any custom segment side-by-side
    • Entity, if you’re managing multiple businesses and want a consolidated view in one report

    Expenses by Vendor

A new report that shows your spending broken out by vendor across any period. Spot expense trends, flag anomalies for your clients, or use it to eliminate unnecessary spending for your own business.

    Custom periods

View any report by month, quarter, year or across all time. Pick the period that matches how you actually run your business.

    Compare to previous periods

Toggle on “Compare to” for all your reports to pull in a previous period alongside your current one. See the dollar and percentage change between periods at a glance.

To start customizing, head to the Accounting tab.

    Multi-Entity Chart of Accounts

You can now create and manage your Chart of Accounts across entities in one place.

If you or your clients are running multiple businesses, keeping your Chart of Accounts consistent everywhere is harder than it should be.

With multi-entity Chart of Accounts, that’s no longer the case:

    • Create and manage accounts for multiple entities at once
    • See which accounts are shared across entities or specific to one, at a glance
    • Keep your By Entity Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reports clean and consistent

To get started, head to the Accounting tab and open your Chart of Accounts.

    Kick

    Journal entry editor

Kick adds a more powerful journal entry editor with recurring entries, automated reversals, and a spreadsheet-style UI for faster accounting workflows and in-cell calculations.

We’ve updated our journal entry feature into a more powerful editor experience.

    Recurring journal entries

Recurring journal entries help automate common accrual workflows like:

    • Depreciation and amortization
    • Deferred revenue
    • Prepaid expenses
    • Payroll adjustments
    • …or any other recurring entry you never want to recreate again

You can also start a recurring journal entry in prior periods, which is especially valuable for catch-up bookkeeping.

Set the recurrence schedule once and Kick will generate each entry automatically.

    Automated reversals

This feature is most useful for temporary accruals and month-end adjustments. Select a reversal date when creating the entry and Kick will generate the reversal for you.

    Spreadsheet UI

We’ve updated the journal entry editor so it feels like a spreadsheet you’re familiar with. You can:

    • Perform in-cell calculations
    • Drag to fill Amounts, Descriptions, or Classes
    • Undo, copy and paste, and navigate with keyboard shortcuts
    • Calculate balancing entries for complex journal entries

This lets you handle all calculations in one place, without needing an offline spreadsheet.

To get started, head to the Accounting tab and click Create journal entry.

    Launch Week Day 5: Classes

Kick introduces Custom Classes to help businesses organize books with flexible hierarchy, automatic transaction tagging, and advanced reporting filters. It also syncs departments from Gusto or Ramp as Classes, with unlimited Classes on the Plus Plan.

Today we’re sharing Custom Classes to give you a completely flexible way to organize your books.

For more complex businesses, including those with multiple locations, departments, business units, or custom systems, Classes make it simple to see how every part of your business is performing.

    With Classes, you can:

    • Create Subclasses to add hierarchy and detail
    • Create Class Rules to automatically tag transactions
    • Filter by Class on Cash Flow and Accounting
    • Assign multiple classes to the same transaction or journal entry for advanced reporting

If you’re using Gusto or Ramp, departments you’ve already created automatically sync as Classes in Kick, keeping your systems in sync without extra setup.

Unlimited Classes are available on the Plus Plan. To get started, head to the Classes tab and click Add class.

    Launch Week Day 4: Views

Kick introduces Views for the Transactions tab, letting users customize columns, entities, and filters, save unlimited workflows, and open multiple browser windows for different clients or entities. It also adds keyboard shortcuts to speed up transaction editing.

When you have a complex business or are managing multiple entities or clients, it’s important to be in control over your specific workflows.

To solve this, today we’re sharing Views, where you can:

    • Customize any Transactions tab with your preferred columns, entities and filters
    • Save and toggle between an unlimited number of Views for different workflows (month-end close, tax prep, personal to business)
    • Open multiple browser windows with different entities/clients

We’ve also started to expose keyboard shortcuts on the Transactions tab to help you rip through changes even faster.

Try a few of our favorites below:

    • Enter → select a single transaction
    • ↑ / ↓ → move through transactions
    • Shift + ↑ / ↓ → select in bulk
      • c → change Category
      • v → change Vendor or Customer
      • g → change General Ledger
      • e → change Entity
      • n → add Note
      • l → change Class

Views are available on all plans, including Free. Head to Transactions and click the Views icon to start customizing.

    Launch Week Day 3: Importer

Kick introduces a new Importer that turns CSVs and PDF statements into transactions in minutes, helping accountants, business owners, and anyone bringing in historical or closed-account data. It also auto-detects accounts from added files and is available on all paid plans.

Today we’re sharing a new way to import transactions that’s making it easier for:

    1. Accountants processing multiple years of catch up bookkeeping
    2. Business owners using local banks or credit unions that don’t offer integrations
    3. Users importing historical data from accounts that sync a limited range of data
    4. Anyone importing data for closed accounts, where typically only PDF statements are available

In the past, you or your Accountant would have to manually convert PDFs or reformat CSVs, just to get your transactions into your accounting software.

With Kick’s new Importer you can upload and automatically transform these documents into transactions in minutes.

    How it works:

    1. Go to the Accounts tab → click Add account → Import transactions
    2. Drag and drop to upload your CSVs or PDFs for any number of accounts or entities
    3. Kick automatically extracts account information, balances, and transactions
    4. Review and edit extracted data in a familiar spreadsheet-style view, then click Import

When you upload additional files, Kick will automatically detect which accounts they belong to — making it simple to stay up to date.

Importer is available on all paid plans. Excited to hear your feedback.

    Kick

Launch Week Day 1: Account reconciliation

Kick now supports automated bank and credit card reconciliation, helping users close the books faster with suggested matches, duplicate and missing transaction flags, and multi-statement uploads for quicker, more accurate review.

Automated bank and credit card reconciliation is now available to help you close the books faster, with confidence.

    The problem with reconciliation today

Reconciliation is often considered complete when the balance in your accounting software matches your bank statement.

In reality, 5–10% of reconciliations contain errors or mismatches caused by:

    • Missing or duplicated transactions from imports or syncs
    • Timing differences (deposits in transit, uncleared checks)
    • Misclassified or manually adjusted entries
    • Beginning balance plugs or prior-period corrections

When differences occur, you’re left spending hours matching hundreds or thousands of transactions one by one.

    Introducing automated account reconciliation

To solve this, we’re now opening up access to automated account reconciliation in Kick.

    How it works:

    1. Upload your bank or credit card statements.
    2. Kick extracts transactions and matches them with data synced from your bank integrations.
    3. You confirm suggested opening balances, even for statements that end mid-month.
    4. Kick flags duplicates, missing transactions, and date differences, which you can review and resolve by simply pressing Return on your keyboard.

Unlike other accounting software, you can also upload multiple statements at once, making it possible to reconcile entire years in minutes, instead of hours.

The result is faster, more accurate reconciliation and less manual work.

And with Kick, you stay in full control — every suggested change is drafted for your approval.

Now available on Plus. Head to the Accounting tab and click Reconciliation to see it in action.

    Kick

    Advanced rules

Kick releases Rules for transactions and accounting reports, giving users more control over categories, classes, entities, vendors, customers, and notes. It also adds Accounting Rules, custom Chart of Accounts mapping, and Rule Groups to organize and prioritize rule sequences.

We’ve built Rules to give you full control over your transactions and accounting reports in Kick.

In the past, Kick automatically created Rules behind the scenes through our Actions feature. Now, we’re putting that same system into your hands — giving you the ability to personalize Kick for your Business or Clients.

Just chose your Conditions and create Actions that:

    • Change Categories
    • Apply Classes
    • Update Entities
    • Assign Vendors
    • Assign Customers
    • Add Notes

In addition to Transactions Rules, we’re also rolling out Accounting Rules, which give you the ability to override Kick’s automated Category to Chart of Accounts mapping. This gives you full flexibility to customize accounting reports for any industry.

To get started, go to the Transactions or Accounting tab within Rules and click “Add rule”.

Once your Rules are set up, you can “kick” back knowing your books are on autopilot.

    Custom Chart of Accounts

With Rules revealed, we’re also opening up the ability for you to create your own custom Chart of Accounts.

You can now map your Transactions to an unlimited number of custom GL accounts to tailor Kick to any industry, all on the Kick Plus Plan.

    Rule Groups

Most accounting rule engines rely on a long, disorganized list of Rules that are difficult to manage at scale.

Kick breaks this trend with a new system called Rule Groups that allows you to create powerful sequences of Rules chained together.

Rule Groups allow you to organize your Rules by Tax Year, Entity, Member, Industry or any way you prefer.

Just drag-and-drop each Rule Group to set your priority, and watch your Rules run exactly as intended.

    Gusto integration

Kick adds a Gusto integration that automates payroll reconciliation by syncing deductions in real time, including wages, taxes, benefits, retirement, contractor payments, reimbursements and donations. The launch is available on Kick Basic Plan, with Plus Plan support for department class tracking and benefits transaction matching.

We’ve partnered with Gusto to fully automate your payroll reconciliation in Kick.

With our new direct integration, Kick now automatically syncs the below deductions in real time so you always have an accurate view of your payroll expenses.

    • Gross wages
    • Payroll taxes
    • Benefits (Medical, vision, dental)
    • Retirement contributions
    • Contractor payments
    • Reimbursements
    • Donations

So more businesses can take advantage, as part of the launch the integration will be available on the Kick Basic Plan.

If you’re on the Plus Plan, Kick will also automatically break out your Departments into Classes to track your payroll expenses across your teams. Any benefits-related bank transactions can now be matched to Gusto to ensure accuracy of your prepaid and payable accounts.

Get started by going to the Accounts tab and connect your Gusto account to Kick. If you don’t have a Gusto account you can create one here.

    Vendor automation

Kick adds automatic Vendor creation, multi-entity Locks for reviewed periods, and a new direct PayPal integration. The update helps users track spending, prevent unwanted changes, and sync revenue, fees, loans, credit cards, and product data more accurately.

Kick now automatically creates Vendors for you, so you can see where you’re spending and stay in control of your finances.
Add any new Vendor from the Transactions or Directory tab and Kick handles it for similar transactions going forward.

    Multi-entity locks

Designed with your Accountant in mind, use Locks to prevent changes across one or multiple business entities for reviewed periods.
