Sharing valuable resources, articles, and other website links in your post might seem like an effective way to drive action from your audience. However, this approach can backfire on LinkedIn and tank your reach.

Due to LinkedIn’s algorithm and their goal to keep users on the platform, posts containing external links often suffer from reduced visibility, leading to lower engagement rates — fewer likes, comments, and shares. Which is why you might have seen LinkedIn content creators use the comments section to share additional resources to accompany their main post like articles and external links. This helps prevent the post from being penalized and increases the odds of getting clicks.

And now you too can take advantage of this strategy by using Loomly to schedule a first comment to go along with your LinkedIn posts, allowing you to maximize visibility and reach while still driving traffic back to your website.

Continue reading to learn how to schedule your LinkedIn first comment in advance along with best practices for increasing views!

Schedule a LinkedIn first comment with Loomly LinkedIn First comment

Schedule a LinkedIn first comment with Loomly

Follow these steps to schedule your LinkedIn first comment:

    • Launch Post Builder, fill in post details including labels for campaign tracking, and select LinkedIn
    • Customize your LinkedIn post like tagging an account, then add content such as a link to your LinkedIn first comment in the textbox
    • (Optional) Target a specific audience, promote your post for boosted visibility, or include a similar first comment for Instagram
    • Then schedule, submit for approval, or publish now!

Why you should use LinkedIn first comments

LinkedIn is a platform for professionals to share expertise, opinions, and ideas across a range of industries. The best way to grow your follower count is to post consistently with high quality and unique content.

But while building a following on LinkedIn can be a key way to draw in your target market, you still need to drive those followers to your website or business.

Since LinkedIn’s goal is to keep as many users as possible on the platform, they reward social-first content that doesn’t contain external links and will restrict the reach of posts that don’t meet their requirements.

So to maximize your engagement and visibility, make sure to add a first comment to go out with your LinkedIn posts so you still prompt followers to take action without hurting your content’s chances of being seen.

Here are some actionable ways to take advantage of this strategy:

    • Add external links to a LinkedIn first comment

Since LinkedIn's algorithm often de-prioritizes posts with external links to keep users on the platform, placing external links in the first comment instead of the main post can improve content performance.

Additionally, comments allow you to share full URL without LinkedIn’s auto link shortening, maintaining link integrity and providing a cleaner appearance.

    • Encourage healthy conversations

By adding “Link in the comments below 🔗” to your main post, you’re able to drive more attention to the comment section and encourage dialogue. Users are more likely to engage with your content if they see additional context provided in your first comment along with opinions from others and further resources.

By prioritizing discussion, you’ll see a steady increase in your engagement metrics and will motivate LinkedIn’s algorithm to share your content more frequently and to a wider audience.

    • Tell a story in your post

Storytelling is a powerful element of content creation that can carry over from your main post to the comments.

Build a narrative to capture attention and build interest like starting with a problem you solved or a milestone you’ve reached. Use the comments section to add links or extra details, enhancing the overall story and encouraging readers to take further action.

    • Engage with comments

Encouraging users to explore your comments is only effective if you actively engage with them. Respond to comments on your post to keep the conversation going and show that you’re not just spraying and praying.

This not only builds a relationship between you and your followers, it also boosts your post's visibility in others' feeds, increasing overall reach.

Maximize your post's visibility by scheduling LinkedIn first comments

Increase the reach of every LinkedIn post with Loomly by scheduling a first comment packed with additional resources, context to accompany your caption, and articles.

Threads scheduling is now available in Loomly!

With over 190 million users as of June 2024, Threads provides marketers, business owners, and creators with an additional avenue to connect with followers, participate in conversations, and build community. Plus with only a year in existence, Threads is still experimental and ripe for going viral with the audiences that can matter the most to your brand.

The main goal of threads is to foster connection, so this is the perfect opportunity for you to leverage the content you’re already creating to cross-post and explore new avenues for your social media strategy.

Manage all your social media accounts in one place.

How to schedule Threads in Loomly

    • Go to Post Builder and select Threads
    • Enter your post’s subject, scheduled date and time, and labels for campaign tracking
    • Add your generic content and upload any media assets since Loomly supports text, image, video, and carousel Threads posts
    • Customize your content in the Fine-tuning panel such as adding a hashtag or tagging other users
    • Schedule, submit for approval, or publish now!

    Why should you use Threads?

New to Threads or not sure about adding another social media channel to manage? Here’s why now is a good time to start exploring this new platform from Instagram and Meta.

Create a conversation on a certain topic
Use Threads to start and engage in meaningful conversations on specific topics with your followers. This is particularly useful for gathering insights and feedback on new ideas you’re considering for your product or service.

Let’s say you want to understand the most trendy color themes in July 2024 among Gen Z followers. You can use Threads’ poll feature to gather even deeper insights and create sneak peeks into your upcoming product launches.

Or say you’re a non-profit organization, like our friends at Plant with Purpose working in developing countries to improve the quality of life for people living in extreme rural poverty, you can leverage Threads to drive action for your cause. Use Threads to showcase ways people can get involved with your organization and be part of a positive change!

    Community building

Have you heard of “posting and ghosting”? This term is becoming increasingly popular and describes the behavior of businesses or influencers who post content but fail to engage with their audience. To truly connect with your audience and build a community, make sure you’re not posting and ghosting!

Beyond discussing specific topics, Threads offers a unique opportunity to build a close-knit community with followers who are interested in your brand. It provides a space for users to share their ideas, knowledge, and opinions, and hear from you as well.

This type of interaction strengthens relationships with your followers, leading to increased customer loyalty.

    Cross-posting from Instagram

One of the standout features of Threads is its integration with Instagram. The accounts you follow on Instagram are already connected on Threads, ensuring a unified follower base across both platforms.

Additionally, content shared on Threads can be referenced on Instagram, facilitating cross-promotion between the two apps. The close connection between the two platforms helps you maintain a cohesive social media presence, maximizing your reach and engagement.

Here’s an example from Nike. They tailored their content for the two platforms to maximize engagement. On Instagram, they used product tagging for direct shopping links.

On Threads, they used threaded comments to enhance readability and engagement, all while using the same visual asset.

By leveraging each platform’s unique features and capabilities, Nike was able to effectively market their new product based on how their audience prefers to consume content.

Best practices for posting on Threads

    • Plan your content
    • Use visuals
    • Broaden your social media strategy by scheduling posts on Threads

Threads is an excellent platform for building a stronger community around your brand. Leverage this rapidly growing platform to reach a wider audience especially when you cross-post with Instagram using Loomly.

If you’re a Loomly customer, log in now and schedule your first Threads post today. If you’re still exploring a new social media scheduler, start your free 15-day trial and discover how Loomly’s features can save you time on social media tasks while bringing you optimal results.

Manage Your Loomly Notifications With Email Digests

Loomly releases customizable email notification settings, letting users choose instant, hourly, daily, weekly, or never for each notification type and per calendar or user. Accessible via a new Notifications tab in Account, these options empower tailored alerts and smarter digest options.

    New notification preferences

So far, Loomly was sending you instant notifications whenever something was happening inside your account.

Today, we are pleased to introduce some brand new settings that allow you to choose when you want to receive notifications:

    • As they happen: our default settings, which keep sending instant notifications as usual.
    • Once per hour: an hourly email digest that compiles all the notifications from the past hour in a single email.
    • Once a day: a daily email digest that compiles all the notifications from the past day in a single email.
    • Once a week: a weekly email digest that compiles all the notifications from the past week in a single email.
    • Never: deactivate all emails if you prefer consuming notifications directly on your Loomly Dashboard.

You can apply the above settings independently to each kind of notification Loomly sends: post status change, assignment, comment, etc.

And, of course, you can set different preferences for each of your calendar, and each user of a calendar can define his or her own settings.

    Where to access

These new email notification preferences are available directly inside your Account, in a brand new Notifications tab.

Once again, this is a feature that was inspired by your amazing and constructive feedback: thank you so much for your ongoing support and enthusiasm.

You are simply the best community we could dream of and we can’t wait to show you what’s next this month… stay tuned!

    The Loomly Team.

    Free Canva designs

New to Canva? The great news is that you can get started with Canva for free.

Whether you’re a visual expert or a design newbie (like yours truly), Canva has a ton of templates, stock images, graphics, videos, audio clips, and so much more that you’re sure to have a feed that pops.

    Match visuals to brand identity

One recommendation on getting started is to decide on the visual direction that you’d like your social channels to have. We suggest having a core brand identity that you can then modify to suit each social media channel which will help you when planning out the accompanying images and videos.

Once you have your direction down, you can either find matching templates or click into Styles and select the corresponding color palettes and combinations for the backgrounds so you have a cohesive look.

With a Canva Pro account, you can build out a brand kit to save your colors, fonts, logos, and custom graphics. This way you have easy access to your brand elements for any design within Canva!

If you don’t have a Canva Pro account, you can always add your logo onto any Canva designs to showcase your brand by having it saved in your Loomly Library and then dragging + dropping it over!

Here’s a great resource from Canva for beginners!

Loomly Tip: While you can create a different design to match each social platform in Canva, another workflow option is to create one Canva design, export it into Loomly, and then use the Loomly editor to crop the image to the correct size per platform.

    Follow Canva’s built-in grid

Canva has built-in grids and guidance to make sure the elements in your visuals are spaced correctly.

This is key to keeping your images uncluttered and easy to read.

Loomly Tip: If you want to make last minute tweaks to your Canva designs such as adding in text for a meme, you can also use Loomly’s Studio after you’ve exported your designs to the Loomly Library.

    Find topical stickers and graphics

If you’re feeling stumped on what visuals to post, Canva offers an extensive collection of stickers, graphics, and visual accents to help you through your creative block.

For example, leading up to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Canva has resources you can lean on:

You can then combine elements to personalize the content to suit your brand voice.

    Have predesigned templates

If you’re working as part of a team, one of the best ways to empower social media managers or marketers is to have your designer create templates that can then be reused as needed without needing constant design support.

With Canva Brand Templates, you can reuse designs without making changes to the original file. This way your team can maintain brand consistency while producing new content.

For example, here’s how our own social media manager repurposed this Post Ideas template to match each social media platform’s aesthetic.

Loomly Tip: Use the Loomly Library to store image and content ideas that you can then export into Canva and add to an existing template for quick content creation.

    Using Canva for video

If you want to elevate your video content without showing your own face, Canva offers a variety of free stock videos that you can post on social media. Simply search for your desired video or aesthetic, and then add text, voice over, music, or any other elements you prefer.

Canva also offers background video templates that you can use for intros, outros, and visual pops in any video that you’re sharing out on social media.

This is a great way to add some stylized elements to videos like webinars, case studies, interviews, and how-to tutorials and guides.

Loomly Tip: You can actually create a slideshow of images in Loomly to then export into Canva for some final video wow factor to really make them stand out.

    Canva Magic and AI enhancements

While those on a free plan have some access to Canva’s AI magic, those on the paid plans are able to do more.

Here are some quirky ways that you can take advantage of Canva’s AI tools to then export into Loomly for social media post scheduling.

    Magic Design

All you need to do is input a prompt for what you’re looking for and Canva will generate some assets for you to use.

When it comes to Canva prompts, we recommend the following:

      1. Specify the social media channel so Canva has the size nailed down
      1. Be clear about the tone of voice or vibe you’re trying to capture
      1. Select your brand kit to keep colors and fonts consistent

For example, using the prompt “Create an Instagram post that says ‘Social Media Goals for 2024’”, I was able to generate this image:

Remember, AI provides a helpful starting point, but it usually requires a human touch to fine tune the results. Don’t be afraid to experiment a few times until you get what you’re looking for!

    Magic Write

If you have text on your images or presentation, you can use Canva’s Magic Edit to rewrite your copy in a different tone of voice and style.

    Magic Edit

With Magic Edit, you can easily remove and replace objects, change the color of existing objects, or add in elements with the click of a button.

Loomly Tip: Easily edit brand photos or stock photos you’ve saved in the Loomly Library by importing directly to Canva.

    Magic Video

Finally, you can use Canva’s AI to create video clips with text and sync up a soundtrack.

We recommend having a few visuals or video clips ahead of time that they can then splice together to ensure it retains your brand and voice. You can then update the copy using Magic Write and change up the visuals if you’re unhappy with the results.

Remixing Loomly Library visuals in Canva

Since this is a two-way integration, you can easily import visuals from your Loomly Library into Canva.

This is handy if you are:

      1. A shop owner who need to post their store hours and wants to change up the visuals
      1. Have campaigns like regular sales or specials that you want to highlight consistently
      1. Absolutely stuck on inspiration and just want to reuse a previous image with slight modifications hoping that no one will notice (kidding, but actually not)

All you need to do is select the Loomly app, choose the calendar, and then drag and drop the image or video clip you’d like to use!

Loomly Tip: Keep a base image or video on hand that’s easy to remix without any additional text or elements.

    Exporting Canva to Loomly

Once you’re happy with your polished Canva designs, it’s time to export your visuals into Loomly for scheduling!

    Follow these steps:

      1. Select the Loomly app in the left hand side Toolbar
      1. Choose the calendar where you would like the design saved
      1. Click Export
      1. Specify your export settings
      1. Click Export one final time to save it to your chosen calendar’s library

Heads up: Only one page can be exported at a time so if your design has multiple pages, please export them one at a time.

Optimizing your social media posts in Loomly

It’s not enough to have thumb stopping visuals, you also need to optimize each social media post so that it will have the highest chance of engagement and reach for each platform.

    That’s where Loomly really excels!

From choosing an optimal time per platform to including alt text on images, tagging products, adding a first comment, and geotagging for Instagram, adding cover images and thumbnails to your videos, plus audience targeting for certain platforms, Loomly has you covered.

One of the other advantages of using Loomly to schedule your Canva designs is that you can see a grid preview of how your posted visuals will look together.

This lets you plan out the order of your completed Canva designs and ensure a cohesive narrative for your feed.

Here is a great example from Loomly customer Ink and Olive Media and how they showcased their Black Friday deals:

Loomly also offers post optimization tips so you can make the final tweaks before scheduling out on each platform.

Finally, Loomly is great for collaborative approval workflows! So if you get any final feedback on the visual assets, remember that you can use the Loomly Studio for visual updates on images or videos.

Plus, you can always see the impact of your posts created in Canva using our Advanced Analytics tool and measure the impact that AI designs have on your audience.

    Need any help?

And that wraps up our new integration! A huge thank you as always to our customers for requesting Loomly and Canva together and a shout out to our engineering team for bringing this to life!

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us here. Or if you have any feature requests, we’d love to hear from you!

    Digital Asset Organization Best Practices

With all of the varied content that is needed on social media, from short-form to long-form videos, different image sizes per channel, and all of the visuals required per campaign, keeping your assets organized can be challenging, to say the least.

Here are some tips to help make things easier to locate.

The first is to make sure you’re naming the assets clearly so you can easily search for visuals that you need:

If you’re a brand, we recommend creating folders in Google Drive nested in the following order:

    • Year

    • Month

    • Campaign or project

    • Optional: timeline of assets released for the campaign

    • So, for example, for a Black Friday campaign, you would have a folder label “Initial comms”, “follow up comms”, and “final reminder”.

Make sure to name your assets based on the intended social media channel as well so you know at a glance what is landscape vs portrait vs square.

If you’re an agency, then we recommend the following hierarchy:

    • Client
    • Year
    • Month
    • Campaign or project
    • Optional: timeline of assets released for the campaign

You can also color-code your folders to easily see different clients or projects.

    Introducing Two-Factor Authentication for Loomly

Loomly releases Two-Factor Authentication to harden account security across its Brand Success Platform, letting users enable 2FA, manage backup codes, and recover access via OTP apps like Google Authenticator. Includes setup steps and security reminders.

The Loomly Team is happy to announce a new layer of protection for Loomly accounts: Two-factor authentication (2FA)!

Manage all your social media accounts in one place.

Craft, schedule, & auto-post content to all your social channels, then track analytics and manage interactions from a single, easy-to-use dashboard.

    What is Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-factor authentication is a best practice for account security. It requires
both your account password and a unique 6-digit verification code known as a One-Time Password (OTP).

OTPs are generated by a third-party authentication app such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy (your choice).

How to set up 2FA for your Loomly account:

    1. Go to the Password & Security tab of Account Settings.

    2. Select Setup Two-Factor Authentication:

      • Step 1: Set up the authentication app by scanning the QR code with your OTP application, or you can enter the code manually.
      • Step 2: Enter the 6-digit verification code generated by your OTP app, then enter your current password.
      • Step 3: Save your Backup Codes on a different device in case you lose the device, or you lose access to the authentication app.

Loomly’s team may not be able to recover your account if you do not have access to your authentication app or Backup Codes due to security reasons.

    1. Select Enable Two-Factor Authentication, then you’re all set! From here, you can manage your backup codes or disable 2FA:

    Save Your Backup Codes!

If you ever lose access to the device with the authentication app or lose access to the app, we highly recommend saving the backup codes from step 3 of your two-factor authentication setup.

Please store these backup codes by printing them out or saving them to a password manager.

Each backup code can only be used once. If you happen to use each backup code, please generate new backup codes by clicking Manage Backup Codes.

    Disabling Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication should be disabled in these cases:

    1. If you’re replacing your device. Then you can re-enable 2FA with your new device by following the same steps.
    2. If you need to update the email address for your account. Then you can re-enable 2FA after you login with your new email address.

As always, thank you to the Loomly Community for all your feedback and enthusiasm. Stay tuned for more!
