Introducing 300-Person Video Meeting Room Capacity & Active Speaker View

Roam has achieved a significant technical breakthrough in video conferencing: Effectively immediately, Roam now supports video conferencing meetings for up to 300 people.

Roam also adds an Active Speaker view to the Meeting Room, with the following layout options:

• Active Speaker automatically pins the primary speaker.
• Gallery displays a grid of equally sized videos.
• Dynamic automatically switches between Active Speaker and Gallery based on the number of participants.

Roam members will receive top-quality, smooth video conferencing across a variety of devices, platforms and conditions. This was a significant R&D effort, culminating in our breakthrough Magic Multiplexing Selective Forwarding Unit (SFU). Read more technical details about our proprietary, patent-pending

technology. But for most of you, just meet and enjoy.

Desktop App

• The image viewer now supports zooming and panning images sent in chat.
• Drag images directly from the viewer to your desktop to save them.
• Magic Minutes in a live meeting now includes suggestions for common prompts.
• Create a new Group Chat from a multi-person DM. Click the three dots at the right > New Group Chat where you can add or remove participants.
• Improved transcriptions and closed caption experience for users experiencing internet issues or network degradation.
• Administrators can now configure the spoken language setting for other members in Settings > Roam Administration > Members > Edit Member.
• Various bug fixes and improvements.

Introducing the All-New Recordings Window

The new Recordings window brings all of your Magic Minutes, Meeting Recordings, and Magicasts into a single interface.

• Video recordings now include an interactive timeline synchronized with the full meeting transcript, with tabs for Participants, Action Items, and the Meeting Summary.
• Easily share recordings with new links that include both the Magic Minutes and the video recording timeline.
• Search the transcript and instantly jump to that moment in the video.
• Filter recordings by date range, meeting participants, meeting template, and more.
• Prompt Magic Minutes to ask private questions about the meeting directly in the Summary tab.
• Create password-protected links to your meeting recordings and Magicasts.
• The Magicasts tab shows all your Magicasts in a single view.
• The On-Air tab displays all of your previously recorded events, with access to the video recording and Magic Minutes.
  • Ask questions about the meeting while it’s happening.
  • If you arrive more than 5 minutes late to a meeting, Magic Minutes will automatically catch you up on what has happened so far.
  • While Magic Minutes is on, click the Magic Minutes icon in the bottom toolbar to ask questions about the meeting in real time.

Desktop App

On-Air

• You can now add custom questions to your event registration page and collect responses from invitees when they RSVP.
• API endpoints for managing your On-Air event, including event creation, managing your guest list, and accessing reporting. Visit our developer site for more info.

Introducing Polls

• Create a poll in any Group Chat to quickly gather input from your team. Watch responses come in, see how everyone voted, and instantly view the winning option. Just click the “Create a Poll” icon in the message composer to get started.

Desktop App

• New Daily Metrics Report Email for Admins. Get a daily digest of important usage metrics for your Roam delivered to admins at the end of each day. Enable in Settings > Roam Administration > Onboarding Checklist.

On-Air

Introducing On-Air

• Now anyone can host Immersive Events for the Creator-Era.
• Create your RSVP page, invite your guests, download your social media press kit, send blasts, and host your event in our immersive Theater.
• RSVP for the On-Air Launch Event this Thursday, February 26, at 12pm ET in Roam.

Desktop App

• Emoji reactions on meeting chat messages are now available on Desktop and Android, with iOS coming next week.
• Roam is building improved background blur and background replacement. To help with this effort, you can choose to opt-in to allowing us to capture short video clips for the purpose of training and improving the service. Account admins can turn this off or have existing videos deleted for members of their organization in Roam Administration > Technical Setup > Video Capture for Blur and Background Replacement Training.
• The calendar for Lobby and Out of Office now respects your device’s locale settings for the start of the week (Sunday or Monday).
• Partner Floor Admins can now perform floor admin actions for partner customers.
• Various bug fixes and improvements.

Android App (v202)

Introducing Replies in Threads

• You can now reply in Group Chats to quote messages directly in threads.

Desktop App

• You can now paste screenshots directly from your clipboard into the Report an Issue dialog.
• Admins can now disable Magicasts, voice messages, whiteboards, and media boards for compliance in Settings > Roam Administration > Compliance.
• Non-members can no longer stop recordings in meetings they are attending.
• Various bug fixes and improvements.

Developer

• New Real-time Presence API scope

Introducing Magic Minutes Templates

Your Minutes Just Got a Little More Magic.

Every meeting has a different purpose. Sales calls drive customer discovery. Engineering standups drive action items. All Hands drive team alignment. So why should they all have a standardized summary format? Introducing Magic Minutes Templates: now you can customize the structure, tone, and content to tailor output of Magic Minutes based on the meeting type, so your summaries match the intended outcome.

• Create templates for meeting types such as:
  • Sales Meetings (Pipeline, Objections, Next Steps)
  • All Hands (Announcements, Metrics, Decisions)
  • Standups (Blockers, Progress, Deployments)
  • Customer Calls (Health, Risks, Expansion Signals)
  • Board Meetings (KPIs, Decisions, Strategic Risks)

Or create your own fully customized templates! Create a template in Settings > Meeting Templates or choose from one of the example templates.

Then apply the template to a meeting in Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar or to a Lobby link. You can even apply a template after the meeting is over to update the summary to get exactly what you want. With Magic Minutes Templates, summaries don’t just recap, they drive work forward.

• Admins can now disable Magicast for an organization for compliance in regulated industries in Settings > Roam Administration > Compliance.

Introducing the Roam Developer Channel

Join our new Developer Channel with Rob, who leads Developer Experience at Roam. We’re working on making Roam more programmable, currently focused on the following:

• A remote MCP server, supporting ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, and others.
• Personal API tokens so you can hook up OpenClaw (formerly Clawdbot), n8n, Zapier, or your own tools.
• Webhook relays, allowing you to easily pipe notifications from other systems into Roam chat.
• Expanding/refining the API and other integrations: OpenClaw skills, Gong video uploads and chat notifications, an automation plugin for Make, and more…

Desktop App

• You can now copy chat content as Markdown for seamless pasting into AI tools and chats.
• Markdown is now rendered in text snippets for improved readability, and the ability to toggle to source view.
• As of this update, macOS 11 Big Sur is no longer supported. Please upgrade to macOS 12 Monterey or later to continue using the Roam desktop app.
